Washington's Blog: New Law REQUIRES the President to Report to Congress Periodically On Actions Taken By the Administration to ENSURE Israel's Military Advantage

On December 21st, Glenn Greenwald quoted from The Jewish Daily Forward to make an important point:

While reports have focused on alleged tension between the Obama administration and Israel over the latter's uncooperative conduct, this is what is actually happening:

Behind the scenes, strategic security relations between the two countries are flourishing. Israeli officials have been singing the praises of President Obama for his willingness to address their defense concerns and for actions taken by his administration to bolster Israel’s qualitative military edge -- an edge eroded, according to Israel, during the final year of the George W. Bush presidency.

Among the new initiatives taken by the administration, the Forward has learned, are adjustments in a massive arms deal the Bush administration made with Arab Gulf states in response to Israeli concerns. There have also been upgrades in U.S.-Israeli military cooperation on missile defense. And a deal is expected next year that will see one of the United States’ most advanced fighter jets go to Israel with some of America’s most sensitive new technology.

Amid the cacophony of U.S.-Israel clashes on the diplomatic front, public attention given to this intensified strategic cooperation has been scant. But in a rare public comment in October, Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren praised the Obama administration’s response to complaints about lost ground during the close of the Bush years as "warm and immediate."

"We came to the Obama administration and said, ‘Listen, we have a problem here,'" Oren, told a gathering of the National Jewish Democratic Council. "The administration’s reaction was immediate: we are going to address this issue, we are going to make sure that we maintain your QME [qualitative military edge]."

All of this is being done pursuant to this:

America’s commitment to maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge was codified directly into U.S. law via 2008 legislation backed by AIPAC. This legislation requires the president to report to Congress periodically on actions taken by the administration to ensure Israel’s advantage.

I have to confess that I didn't realize that a law was enacted last year making it a legal requirement for America to maintain "Israel’s qualitative military edge," and -- even more amazingly -- that the President of the U.S. is required to report regularly to the U.S. Congress on the steps he's taking to ensure Israel's superiority. That's a rather extraordinary law, and the administration seems to be fulfilling its requirements faithfully.

Contact with the Deep

This blog is dedicated to shark-minds and spirits that are wise like dolphins. Here, with keystrokes of justice, more than a few things are said in jest, but I hope that there is enough of a direct analysis of the crisis we are in that you don't find the various pieces totally fruitless. And, although I am an earnest truth excavator, and a committed trutha diver, I have no delusions about my prospects.

Since we currently live in unfriendly waters, in a spot of ocean far away from land, we must take cues from the animal kingdom, who are always in touch with their ancestors and are always aware of their surrounding. We must follow their example and never lose sight of the real and physical threats to our existence. Who are these threats? Well, in their current form they are society's biggest and greediest banks, our despotic rulers in government, monolithic and corrupt corporations, and the security state. They are the people's enemies and are dead set against the progress of a greater, freer humanity. They hate large numbers because it is the only power that can stop them in their quest for domination of everything in this world, the ocean, the sun, the deep, everything you can imagine. Without numbers, we are without relief, and without freedom. And this is not paranoia. Our governments have been seized. And our liberties have long been stripped by the restless hands of power. These are facts. But the people, leaving aside their massive stupidity, represent a powerful force that can reign in this hellish tyranny, if they can manage to embrace the truth in time. But that means they must first face the facts.

Facing the truth is not like coming one-to-one with the creator, there is no judgment on your character, only revelation. It is a discovery unlike any other. Fresh minds and tired eyes alike can recognize its varied features. And if you come upon it for the first time, after rejecting its existence for many long years, its penetrating depth makes it an even more surreal experience. I personally have not come in direct contact with the truth of our world, and of the evil men who plan to control it, but I have swam through channels of thought that led me to its presence. Direct contact with it is not required in order to understand its significance. Its effect can be felt by anyone who has a true desire to reach for it. Attempting to grasp and touch its face is out of the question, and unnecessary, because the truth only has to be seen. And it can be seen in the deep, after a long struggle to pursue it's hiding place, which is in the bottom of the ocean.

The popular phrase "waking up" is turned upside down in the journey to the deep that I want to briefly lay out. Instead of waking up, those who swim towards the deep, after the truth, are waking down. And those who rest their arms and legs, allowing their minds and bodies to creep towards the edge of the surface, are sleeping out, not sleeping in. It's a bit confusing, because the brave ones who desire to swim through the very depth of the ocean feel like a fish out of water, while the cowards with their heads above water feel they're in intimate relations with the truth. They look up at the sun and believe its burning light on their back is a testament to their willingness to be enlightened while sacrificing their skin. But unknown to them, the truth is far below, unattached to light for a reason - it helps keep it in a greater condition. If it was visible through the surface of the water due to the sun's aid, then the gathering crowds would force the truth to turn away its face and become alien to everyone. The truth must be experienced individually. In its present state each man or woman can join its presence and enjoy its beauty, as if it was meant for only that individual. The sacredness of revelation is that it doesn't have to be dictated - you see, and you know, any other communication gets in the way. And every unique soul can observe without being told its significance. A collective identity can then be found in the truth, but not before, not all at once, and not haphazardly.

The ocean I'm speaking of is rich with things we were never told about, or believed to never exist. When you are kicking your legs back and froth while on the surface, there is a whole world of truth below you, just waiting to be explored. But this ocean is not without its dangers. There are octopuses with long tentacles, nets that you can get caught in, and unfriendly creatures that can cut your spirit. But the journey for truth makes it all worth it.

So come on down. No price is too high for the truth. If you have a thinking hat on, then take it off, because we're about to go deep under water, and open minds are a requirement for this oceanic excavation. I only bring it up because I don't want you to lose your hat as you dive in - you're going to need it later, when you go back up for fresh air, to examine the ideas and evidence discovered in the rocks, and other hard to get to places.

But why must we plunge inwards? Because it is important to get to the very bottom of the world's realities and at least touch their surface with our palms. And we must do so before we decide to spring our arms and go back up in a mad fury, because we'll make no headway intellectually if we stop in the middle of our quest for the truth, and then give up. Handling new truths is a tough challenge, and some minds who are unexposed to different currents in their bloodstream, or have not made previous encounters with the hard facts that are before them, will drown in their thoughts, because facts can boil their conscious, and pop a few blood vessels. And their lack of intellectual abilities can't be blamed for their poor performance because even men of the highest intelligence have trouble digesting uncomfortable truths. And it is hard to swim in the deep sea of investigation when you're driven with anger and red in the face. The blue water of inquiry is different from the blue flame of anger, it only tolerates calm and collected spirits. Spirits that swim freely, and have nothing at stake that they can lose if they reach too far down, such as long-held beliefs about the world, or government-endorsed ways of thinking, or the sense of security. In order to navigate truths in the deep ocean you must let go of your prior engagements with the false reality that is reflected to us on the ocean's surface, and you must bury your head into the water with a naked spirit, without the life-jacket offered by the government's "security," or the mainstream media. You must be, in a word, weightless. Fearless. Truth-less. Secure-less. You must keep less in spirit, and more in mind, because the mind is flexible whereas the spirit is fully committed, the mind can dodge and weave the long arms of octopuses that hungers for minds, and want them soaked up, tied down, and contained. So it is best to take the first trip to the deep in a footloose manner, taking quick breaths, and swimming with an open eye - to see what was once hidden from you, or what you once refused to see. Only experienced travelers should dive straight in and head towards a particular gem or diamond of truth that is way below even the surface of the bottom of the ocean.

And to be crystal clear, this is an ocean of truth and facts, not of lies and fabrications. Those are visible on the surface, and are intended to mesmerize people so they don't bother to go deeper, to penetrate reality, to penetrate history, to think critically. But that's not to suggest that the truth is all around us once we are deep in the ocean, or that if we only get our feet as well as our minds wet and become 'trutha divers' we'll acquire truthhood instantly. Taking in unyielding truths demands a great will, and an intense effort to challenge the truth, to see if it is in line with your previous discoveries, and other facts. It takes hard work. And the truth must be accepted on its conditions, not yours. The capacity to take in fully without judging right away is an act of pure bravery, and I commend all thinkers who are courageous enough to even ponder nauseating facts. Judgment of anything is a sensitive task, if you do it too quickly and outright then you will find yourself in the wrong, but if you fail to pass any judgment at all then you'll forever remain a faceless fish in the sea, unconscious to the dangerous threats that are out of your reach and can take your spirit, and your life. There is no doubt that coming in contact with the deep truth at this moment in time is a survival mechanism for our species. The spirit of humanity can't live under totalitarian lies. And if we don't aim for the truth and swim towards it with deliberate strokes, then we'll remain hostages to lies, and the masters of lies.

John Pilger: 2010: Welcome to Orwell’s World

In Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell described a superstate called Oceania, whose language of war inverted lies that "passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.’"

Barack Obama is the leader of a contemporary Oceania. In two speeches at the close of the decade, the Nobel Peace Prize winner affirmed that peace was no longer peace, but rather a permanent war that "extends well beyond Afghanistan and Pakistan" to "disorderly regions and diffuse enemies." He called this "global security" and invited our gratitude. To the people of Afghanistan, which America has invaded and occupied, he said wittily: "We have no interest in occupying your country."

In Oceania, truth and lies are indivisible. According to Obama, the American attack on Afghanistan in 2001 was authorized by the United Nations Security Council. There was no UN authority. He said the "the world" supported the invasion in the wake of 9/11 when, in truth, all but three of 37 countries surveyed by Gallup expressed overwhelming opposition. He said that America invaded Afghanistan "only after the Taliban refused to turn over [Osama] bin Laden." In 2001, the Taliban tried three times to hand over bin Laden for trial, reported Pakistan’s military regime, and were ignored. Even Obama’s mystification of 9/11 as justification for his war is false. More than two months before the Twin Towers were attacked, the Pakistani foreign minister, Niaz Naik, was told by the Bush administration that an American military assault would take place by mid-October. The Taliban regime in Kabul, which the Clinton administration had secretly supported, was no longer regarded as "stable" enough to ensure America’s control over oil and gas pipelines to the Caspian Sea. It had to go.

Obama’s most audacious lie is that Afghanistan today is a "safe haven" for al-Qaeda’s attacks on the West. His own national security adviser, General James Jones, said in October that there were "fewer than 100" al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. According to US intelligence, 90 percent of the Taliban are hardly Taliban at all, but "a tribal localized insurgency [who] see themselves as opposing the US because it is an occupying power." The war is a fraud. Only the terminally gormless remain true to the Obama brand of "world peace."

Beneath the surface, however, there is serious purpose. Under the disturbing General Stanley McChrystal, who gained distinction for his assassination squads in Iraq, the occupation of one of the most impoverished countries is a model for those "disorderly regions" of the world still beyond Oceania’s reach. This is known as COIN, or counter-insurgency network, which draws together the military, aid organizations, psychologists, anthropologists, the media, and public relations hirelings. Covered in jargon about winning hearts and minds, its aim is to pit one ethnic group against another and incite civil war: Tajiks and Uzbeks against Pashtuns.

The Americans did this in Iraq and destroyed a multi-ethnic society. They bribed and built walls between communities who had once inter-married, ethnically cleansing the Sunni and driving millions out of the country. The embedded media reported this as "peace," and American academics bought by Washington and "security experts" briefed by the Pentagon appeared on the BBC to spread the good news. As in Nineteen Eighty-Four, the opposite was true.

Something similar is planned for Afghanistan. People are to be forced into "target areas" controlled by warlords bankrolled by the Americans and the opium trade. That these warlords are infamous for their barbarism is irrelevant. "We can live with that," a Clinton-era diplomat said of the persecution of women in a "stable" Taliban-run Afghanistan. Favored western relief agencies, engineers, and agricultural specialists will attend to the "humanitarian crisis" and so "secure" the subjugated tribal lands.

That is the theory. It worked after a fashion in Yugoslavia where the ethnic-sectarian partition wiped out a once peaceful society, but it failed in Vietnam where the CIA’s "strategic hamlet program" was designed to corral and divide the southern population and so defeat the Viet Cong — the Americans’ catch-all term for the resistance, similar to "Taliban."

Behind much of this are the Israelis, who have long advised the Americans in both the Iraq and Afghanistan adventures. Ethnic cleansing, wall-building, checkpoints, collective punishment, and constant surveillance – these are claimed as Israeli innovations that have succeeded in stealing most of Palestine from its native people. And yet for all their suffering, the Palestinians have not been divided irrevocably and they endure as a nation against all odds.

The most telling forerunners of the Obama Plan, which the Nobel Peace Prize winner and his strange general and his PR men prefer we forget, are those that failed in Afghanistan itself. The British in the 19th century and the Soviets in the 20th century attempted to conquer that wild country by ethnic cleansing and were seen off, though after terrible bloodshed. Imperial cemeteries are their memorials. People power, sometimes baffling, often heroic, remains the seed beneath the snow, and invaders fear it.

"It was curious," wrote Orwell in Nineteen Eighty-Four, "to think that the sky was the same for everybody, in Eurasia or Eastasia as well as here. And the people under the sky were also very much the same, everywhere, all over the world … people ignorant of one another’s existence, held apart by walls of hatred and lies, and yet almost exactly the same people who … were storing up in their hearts and bellies and muscles the power that would one day overturn the world."

War is not God's will.

This Iraq veteran's confession about the damaging role he played in an innocent family's death reveals the all too human aspect of war. Life and death decisions are made in a matter of seconds. The soldier then said how the mother of the family came up to his shoulder and expressed to him that it was "God's will," - but he was not buying the religious get-away card, and took full responsibility of his actions. He refused to look to God to explain his violent decision that laid out a family flat. It was definitely a daring revelation, and his experience is by far a common one.

For all the fundamentalist rhetoric about a new crusade, this is not a religious war, but a commercial and territorial one. God did not march into Baghdad with the 33rd infantry. And he is not there now, justifying the murder of innocent human beings.

Another Classic Interview

Alex Jones talks with Paul Craig Roberts.

Roberts: "Were slaves. We don't own our own labor. We have no legal protection. We can't get the truth from what used to be reliable television and print media. It's just not a situation that bodes any promise for anything good. There's no way you can come out of this."

CIA: Criminals Initiating Assassinations

Ray McGovern: Are Presidents Afraid of the CIA?

December 29, 2009 "Consortium News" - In the past, I have alluded to Panetta and the Seven Dwarfs. The reference is to CIA Director Leon Panetta and seven of his moral-dwarf predecessors — the ones who sent President Barack Obama a letter on Sept. 18 asking him to “reverse Attorney General Holder’s Aug. 24 decision to re-open the criminal investigation of CIA interrogations.”

Panetta reportedly was also dead set against reopening the investigation — as he was against release of the Justice Department’s “torture memoranda” of 2002, as he has been against releasing pretty much anything at all — the President’s pledges of a new era of openness, notwithstanding. [See Consortiumnews.com’s “CIA Torturers Running Scared.”]

Panetta is even older than I, and hearing is among the first faculties to fail. Perhaps he heard “error” when the President said “era.”

As for the benighted seven, they are more to be pitied than scorned. No longer able to avail themselves of the services of clever Agency lawyers and wordsmiths, they put their names to a letter that reeked of self-interest — not to mention the inappropriateness of asking a President to interfere with an investigation already ordered by the Attorney General.

Three of the seven — George Tenet, Porter Goss and Michael Hayden — were themselves involved, in one way or another, in planning, conducting or covering up all manner of illegal actions, including torture, assassination and illegal eavesdropping.

In this light, the most transparent part of the letter may be the sentence in which they worry: “There is no reason to expect that the re-opened criminal investigation will remain narrowly focused.”

When asked about the letter on Sunday TV shows on Sept. 20, Obama was careful always to respond first by expressing obligatory “respect” for the CIA and its directors.

With Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation,” though, Obama did allow himself a condescending quip. He commented, “I appreciate the former CIA directors wanting to look out for an institution that they helped to build.”

That quip was, sadly, the exception to the rule. While Obama keeps repeating the mantra that “nobody is above the law,” there is no real sign that he intends to face down Panetta and the Seven Dwarfs — no sign that anyone has breathed new life into federal prosecutor John Durham, to whom Holder gave the mandate for further “preliminary investigation.”

What is generally forgotten is that it was former Attorney General Michael Mukasey who picked Durham two years ago to investigate the CIA’s destruction of 91 tapes of the interrogation of “high-value detainees.”

Durham had scarcely been heard from when Holder added to his job-jar the task of conducting a preliminary investigation regarding the CIA torture specialists. These are the ones whose zeal led them to go beyond the already highly permissive Justice Department guidelines for “harsh interrogation.”

Durham, clearly, is proceeding with all deliberate speed (emphasis on “deliberate”). Someone has even suggested — I trust, in jest — that he has been diverted to the search for the money and other assets that Bernie Maddow stashed away.

In any case, do not hold your breath for findings from Durham anytime soon. Holder appears in no hurry. And President Obama keeps giving off signals that he is afraid of getting crosswise with the CIA — that’s right, afraid.

Not Just Paranoia

In that fear, President Obama stands in the tradition of a dozen American presidents. Harry Truman and John Kennedy were the only ones to take on the CIA directly.

Worst of all, evidence continues to build that the CIA was responsible, at least in part, for the assassination of President Kennedy. Evidence new to me came in response to things I included in my article of Dec. 22, “Break the CIA in Two."

What follows can be considered a sequel that is based on the kind of documentary evidence after which intelligence analysts positively lust.

Unfortunately for the CIA operatives who were involved in the past activities outlined below, the temptation to ask Panetta to put a SECRET stamp on the documentary evidence will not work. Nothing short of blowing up the Truman Library might help some.

But even that would be a largely feckless “covert action,” copy machines having long since done their thing.

In my article of Dec. 22, I referred to Harry Truman’s op-ed of exactly 46 years before, titled “Limit CIA Role to Intelligence,” in which the former President expressed dismay at what the Central Intelligence Agency had become just 16 years after he and Congress created it.

The Washington Post published the op-ed on Dec. 22, 1963, in its early edition, but immediately excised it from later editions. Other media ignored it. The long hand of the CIA?

Truman wrote that he was “disturbed by the way CIA has been diverted from its original assignment” to keep the President promptly and fully informed and had become “an operational and at times policy-making arm of the government.”

The Truman Papers

Documents in the Truman Library show that nine days after Kennedy was assassinated, Truman sketched out in handwritten notes what he wanted to say in the op-ed. He noted, among other things, that the CIA had worked as he intended only “when I had control.”

In Truman’s view, misuse of the CIA began in February 1953, when his successor, Dwight Eisenhower, named Allen Dulles CIA Director. Dulles’s forte was overthrowing governments (in current parlance, “regime change”), and he was quite good at it.

With coups in Iran (1953) and Guatemala (1954) under his belt, Dulles was riding high in the late Fifties and moved Cuba to the top of his to-do list.

Accustomed to the carte blanche given him by Eisenhower, Dulles was offended when young President Kennedy came on the scene and had the temerity to ask questions about the Bay of Pigs adventure, which had been set in motion under Eisenhower.

When Kennedy made it clear he would NOT approve the use of U.S. combat forces, Dulles reacted with disdain and set out to mousetrap the new President.

Coffee-stained notes handwritten by Allen Dulles were discovered after his death and reported by historian Lucien S. Vandenbroucke. They show how Dulles drew Kennedy into a plan that was virtually certain to require the use of U.S. combat forces.

In his notes Dulles explained that, “when the chips were down,” the new President would be forced by “the realities of the situation” to give whatever military support was necessary “rather than permit the enterprise to fail.”

Additional detail came from a March 2001 conference on the Bay of Pigs, which included CIA operatives, retired military commanders, scholars and journalists. Daniel Schorr told National Public Radio that he had gained one new perception as a result of the “many hours of talk and heaps of declassified secret documents”:

“It was that the CIA overlords of the invasion, Director Allen Dulles and Deputy Richard Bissell, had their own plan on how to bring the United States into the conflict.… What they expected was that the invaders would establish a beachhead … and appeal for aid from the United States. …

“The assumption was that President Kennedy, who had emphatically banned direct American involvement, would be forced by public opinion to come to the aid of the returning patriots. American forces, probably Marines, would come in to expand the beachhead.

“In fact, President Kennedy was the target of a CIA covert operation that collapsed when the invasion collapsed.”

The “enterprise” which Dulles said could not fail was, of course, the overthrow of Fidel Castro. After mounting several failed operations to assassinate him, this time Dulles meant to get his man, with little or no attention to what the Russians might do in reaction.

Kennedy stuck to his guns, so to speak; fired Dulles and his co-conspirators a few months after the abortive invasion in April 1961; and told a friend that he wanted to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds.”

The outrage was mutual, and when Kennedy himself was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, it must have occurred to Truman that the disgraced Dulles and his outraged associates might not be above conspiring to get rid of a President they felt was soft on Communism — and, incidentally, get even.

In his op-ed of Dec. 22, 1963, Truman warned: “The most important thing … was to guard against the chance of intelligence being used to influence or to lead the President into unwise decisions.” It is a safe bet that Truman had the Bay of Pigs fiasco uppermost in mind.

Truman called for CIA’s operational duties [to] be terminated or properly used elsewhere.” (This is as good a recommendation now as it was then, in my view.)

On Dec. 27, 1963, retired Admiral Sidney Souers, whom Truman had appointed to lead his first central intelligence group, sent a “Dear Boss” letter applauding Truman’s outspokenness and blaming Dulles for making the CIA “a different animal than I tried to set up for you.”

Souers specifically lambasted the attempt “to conduct a ‘war’ invading Cuba with a handful of men and without air cover.”

Souers also lamented the fact that the agency’s “principal effort” had evolved into causing “revolutions in smaller countries around the globe,” and added:
“With so much emphasis on operations, it would not surprise me to find that the matter of collecting and processing intelligence has suffered some.”

Clearly, CIA’s operational tail was wagging its substantive dog — a serious problem that persists to this day.

Fox Guarding Hen House

The well-connected Dulles got himself appointed to the Warren Commission and took the lead in shaping the investigation of JFK’s assassination.

Documents in the Truman Library show that he then mounted a small domestic covert action of his own to neutralize any future airing of Truman’s and Souers’s warnings about covert action.

So important was this to Dulles that he invented a pretext to get himself invited to visit Truman in Independence, Missouri. On the afternoon of April 17, 1964, Dulles spent a half-hour trying to get the former President to retract what he had said in his op-ed. No dice, said Truman.

No problem, thought Dulles. Four days later, in a formal memo for his old buddy Lawrence Houston, CIA General Counsel from 1947 to 1973, Dulles fabricated a private retraction, claiming that Truman told him the Washington Post article was “all wrong,” and that Truman “seemed quite astounded at it.”

No doubt Dulles thought it might be handy to have such a memo in CIA files, just in case.

A fabricated retraction? It certainly seems so, because Truman did not change his tune. Far from it.

In a June 10, 1964, letter to the managing editor of Look magazine, for example, Truman restated his critique of covert action, emphasizing that he never intended the CIA to get involved in “strange activities.”

Dulles and Dallas

Dulles could hardly have expected to get Truman to recant publicly. So why was it so important for Dulles to place in CIA files a fabricated retraction? My guess is that in early 1964 he was feeling a good bit of heat from those suggesting the CIA might have been involved somehow in the Kennedy assassination.

Indeed, columnists were asking how the truth could ever come out with Allen Dulles on the Warren Commission. Prescient.

Dulles feared, rightly, that Truman’s limited-edition op-ed might yet hit pay dirt and raise serious questions about covert action. Dulles would have wanted to be in position to flash the Truman “retraction,” with the hope that this would nip any serious questioning in the bud.

The media had already shown how co-opted — er, I mean “cooperative” — it could be.

As the de facto head of the Warren Commission, Dulles was perfectly positioned to exculpate himself and any of his associates, were any commissioners or investigators — or journalists — tempted to question whether the killing in Dallas might have been a CIA covert action.

Did Allen Dulles and other “cloak-and-dagger CIA operatives have a hand in killing President Kennedy and then covering it up? The most up-to-date — and, in my view, the best — dissection of the assassination appeared last year in James Douglass’s book, JFK and the Unspeakable.

After updating and arraying the abundant evidence, and conducting still more interviews, Douglass concludes the answer is Yes.

The Iran Front - Secret source exposes Israel's hand in false document
:

Former CIA official Philip Giraldi has gotten word from analysts in the US intelligence services that the document that was published by the Times of London on December 14 that stated Iran is experimenting to develop a nuclear bomb is fraudulent. The article by the Times was titled "Secret document exposes Iran's nuclear trigger." The CIA sources told Giraldi that Israel and possibly the British government were involved in forging the document, and using Rupert Murdoch's newspaper to plant the document in the news media.

This is just another propaganda attempt in the effort to increase public support for nuclear strikes on Iran. Read the complete story by Gareth Porter here.

The Afghanistan Front - A Few Die, and A Few Get Super Fucking Rich:

The number of dead US soldiers in 2009 is two times larger than last year's casualties, with 310. Sgt. David Guiterrez, 35, was one of the many brave fighters who fell, and his death came on Christmas day. He had three boys.

Jo Comerford of the National Priorities Project has added up the cost of the war in Afghanistan, and it comes down to $57, 077. 60 per minute. That's right. And the predicted spending for continuing the fake terror war in 2010 is 102 billion dollars. Wow! Imagine the kind of movies James Cameron would be making if he was given just a week's pay from the war checkbook.

Say Hello to Armageddon!

During this short and hellish decade you lost all of your liberties. But beginning in 2010 you will lose your mind, piece by piece, bit by bit, until you can't take it anymore. But even your defiance will not stop mankind's cruelest tyrants and their ever faithful practitioners from getting under your skin to rule every part of your new-age life. They are in this for the long haul, and their plans show a deep commitment to an authoritarian-corporatist bureaucracy that is fed by war and debt. These anti-humanist criminals view all the common people underneath them as useless human shit. This is their world, not yours. But they do want to make your life a little bit more convenient - they're not total monsters, they understand the average citizen's aesthetic impulses, unconscious yearnings, and animal cravings, "the twists and turns of the slave", so to speak. They want you to spy on yourself for them, and in return you'll get to play with the coolest gadget ever placed in human hands. And they want you to tax yourself on the road and in your home, but hey, don't feel too bad - you're making a contribution towards saving the planet. So, cheer up, slave, you could have it a lot worse - you could be a Chinese slave, or an African child soldier, or an Indian farmer, or an Iraqi refugee. You have it good compared to the rest of the world. You have Hollywood, and reality television, and the biggest and baddest drugs on the market. You have it real good. So, say hello to armageddon! Enjoy it.

Kurt Sonnenfeld, An American Whistleblower in Political Exile

The Voltaire Network interviews Kurt Sonnenfeld, who worked as a FEMA videographer at Ground Zero for one month after the terror attacks, and had unlimited access to film the wreckage. His new book called "The Persecuted," raises doubt about the official account of 9/11 given by the US government. Sonnenfeld's uncompromising stand against the US authorities has made him an enemy of the state. He has been followed, persecuted, and threatened by the US intelligence services where he currently lives in Argentina. If he returns to the United States he faces the possibility of being charged with state crimes and given the death penalty if found guilty. In post-9/11 Amerika you are instantly considered a heretic and a terrorist if you raise your voice against the government's claims.

Below is only a brief passage from the interview, which can be read in full here.

Voltaire Network: With the publication of your book, you have become a "whistleblower" – yet another step on which there is no going back! There must be many people with inside knowledge about what really happened or did not happen on that fateful day. Yet, hardly any have stepped up to the plate and certainly no one who was directly involved in an official capacity. This is what makes your case so compelling. Judging from your ordeal, it is not difficult to imagine what is holding such people back.

Kurt Sonnenfeld: Actually, there are several other very smart and credible people blowing whistles, too. And they are being discredited and ignored. Some are being harassed and persecuted, as I am.

People are gripped by fear. Everybody knows that if you question US authority you will have problems in some way or another. At minimum you will be discredited and dehumanized. Most likely you’ll find yourself indicted for something completely unrelated, like tax evasion — or something even worse, as in my case. Look at what happened to Secret Service whistle-blower Abraham Bolden, for example, or to chess master Bobby Fischer after he showed his disdain for the US. There are countless other examples. In the past I asked friends and associates to speak out for me to counter all the lies being planted in the media, and all of them were terrified as to the ramifications to themselves and their families.

Voltaire Network: To what degree would your discoveries at Ground Zero expose the government’s involvement in those events? Are you familiar with the investigations that have been carried out by numerous scientists and qualified professionals which not only corroborate your own findings but, in some instances, far exceed them? Do you regard such people as "conspiracy nuts"?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: At the highest levels in Washington, DC, someone knew what was going to happen. They wanted a war so badly that they at least let it happen and most likely even helped it happen.

Sometimes it seems to me that the “nuts” are those who hold to what they’ve been told with an almost religious fervor despite all of the evidence to the contrary — the ones who won’t even consider that there was a conspiracy. There are so many anomalies to the “official” investigation that you can’t blame it on oversight or incompetence. I am familiar with the scientists and qualified professionals to whom you refer, and their findings are convincing, credible, and presented according to scientific protocol — in stark contrast to the findings of the “official” investigation. In addition, numerous intelligence agents and government officials have now come forward with their very informed opinions that the 911 Commission was a farce at best or a cover-up at worst. My experience at Ground Zero is but one more piece of the puzzle.

Voltaire Network: Those events are nearly 8 years behind us. Do you consider that uncovering the truth about 9/11 continues to be an important objective? Why?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: It is of absolute importance. And it will be equally as important in 10 years, or even 50 years if the truth still has not been exposed. It is an important objective because, at this point in history, many people are too credulous to whatever “authority” tells them and too willing to follow. People in a state of shock seek guidance. People who are afraid are manipulable. And being able to manipulate the masses results in unimaginable benefits to a lot of very rich and very powerful people. War is incredibly expensive, but the money has to go somewhere. War is very profitable for the very few. And somehow their sons always end up in Washington DC, making the decisions and writing the budgets, while the sons of the poor and the poorly-connected always end up on the enemy lines, taking their orders and fighting their battles. The enormous black-budget of the US Department of Defense represents an unlimited money machine for the military-industrial complex, figuring in the multi-trillions of dollars, and it will continue to be so until the masses wake up, recuperate their skepticism and demand accountability. Wars (and false pretexts for war) will not cease until the people realize the true motive of war and stop believing “official” explanations.

Voltaire Network: What is referred to as the 9/11 Truth Movement, has been asking for a new, independent investigation into those events. Do you think that the Obama Administration holds out some hope in this respect?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: I really hope so, but I’m skeptical. Why would the leadership of any established government willingly undertake any action that would result in a serious compromise to their authority? They will prefer to maintain the status quo and leave the things the way they are. The conductor of the train has been changed, but has the train changed its course? I doubt it. The push has to come from the public, not only domestically, but internationally, like your group is doing.

Voltaire Network: A number of human rights and activist groups are supporting your plight, not least Peace Nobel Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel. How have the Argentinean people in general responded to your situation?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: With an incredible outpouring of support. The military dictatorship is still fresh in the collective memory of most of the people here, along with the knowledge that the dictatorship (along with the other South American dictatorships at the time) was backed by the CIA, directed at the time by George Bush Senior. They remember well the torture centers, the secret prisons, the thousands of people “disappeared” for their opinions, the living in daily fear. They know that the United States today will do the same thing if they consider it beneficial, that they will invade a country to achieve their political and economic interests and then manipulate the media with fabricated “causus belli” to justify their conquests.

Kurt Sonnenfeld with Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Nobel Peace Prize 1980

My family and I are honored to have Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and his advisors at Servicio de Paz y Justicia (SERPAJ) among our dearest friends. We have worked together on many causes, including the rights of refugees, the rights of women, for children without families and children with HIV/AIDS. We are also honored to have the support of the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo; Madres de Plaza de Mayo, Línea Fundadora; Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS); Asamblea Permanente de Derechos Humanos (APDH); Familiares de Detenidos y Desaparecidos por Razones Políticas; Asociación de Mujeres, Migrantes y Refugiados Argentina (AMUMRA); Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Honorable Cámara de Diputados de la Provincia de Buenos Aires; Secretaría de Derechos Humanos de la Nación; and the Programa Nacional Anti-Impunidad. On an international level, Amicus Curiae have been presented in our favor by REPRIEVE of Great Britain, along with the collaboration of NIZKOR of Spain and Belgium. In addition, my wife, Paula, and I have been received in the Congress by La Comisión de Derechos Humanos y Garantías de la Honorable Cámara de Diputados de La Nación.

Voltaire Network: As we said, deciding to write this book and to go public was a huge step. What pushed you to do it?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: To save my family. And to let the world know that things are not what they seem.

Voltaire Network: Last but not least: what will you do with your tapes?

Kurt Sonnenfeld: I am convinced that my tapes reveal many more anomalies than I am capable of recognizing given my limited qualifications. I will therefore cooperate in any way that I can with serious and reliable experts in a common endeavour to expose the truth.

Voltaire Network: Thank you very much !

In Goldman We Go Bust

Zero Hedge:

It appears that even after thoroughly dominating the US legislative, judicial and executive branches, the long tentacles of the squid have been no better than the Mongolian hordes at overcoming the Chinese Wall (which is ironic seeking how easy it is to ignore the same construct internally between the firm's prop and flow traders...and yes, we will be posting our response to Goldman shortly, we have not forgotten). In the meantime, half a world away, a small Chinese power generator, Shenzhen Nanshan Power, is blatantly refusing to honor contracts with Goldman Subsidiary J. Aron for $80 million in derivative losses, and it appears that China itself has decided to stand behind the small company.

Reuters reports:

Shenzhen Nanshan Power (000037.SZ) (200037.SZ) said in a statement that it received several notices from J. Aron & Company, a trading subsidiary of Goldman Sachs (GS.N), for at least $79.96 million as compensation for terminating oil option contracts.

"We will not accept the demand by J. Aron for all the losses and related interests," said Nanshan, in line with the stance it took last December.

"We will try our best to negotiate with J. Aron and resolve the dispute peacefully...but the possibility of using a lawsuit can not be ruled out when talks fail," it added.

"J. Aron told us in one notice that if we do not pay the money, they will reserve the right to launch a lawsuit and will not send us any further notice."

The State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission said in September that it would back state-owned companies in any legal action against the foreign banks that sold them oil derivatives, which resulted in losses when oil prices dived late last year. [ID:nPEK14474]

A Beijing-based Goldman Sachs corporate communication official declined to comment.

Not sure what Hank Paulson's former firm would comment: alas the Chinese communist party still has to be filled with Goldman alumni. That being said, this is precisely the track that Goldman has been focusing on for the past few years. At this point, the firm realizes all too well that dominating power politics in China in the near futures is far more critical than complete control over D.C., as there is little the world's most important company can do domestically in the context of taxpayer capital transfer without a full fledged revolution.

David Simon Interview in Vice Magazine

David Simon, the creator of The Wire, is interviewed by possibly the show's greatest fanatic, if you can call him that. A Simon-groupie is a better description. Frankly, though, I can't blame him.

Greenwald: The Joys of Airstrikes and Anonymity

Each time the U.S. bombs a new location in the Muslim world, the same pattern emerges. First, officials from the U.S. or allied governments run to their favorite media outlet to claim -- anonymously -- that some big, bad, notorious, "top" Al Qaeda leader "may have been" or "likely was" killed in the strike, and this constitutes a "stinging" or "devastating" blow against the Terrorist group. These compliant media outlets then sensationalistically trumpet that claim as the dominant theme of their "reporting" on the attack, drowning out every other issue.

As a result, and by design, there is never any debate or discussion over the propriety or wisdom of these strikes. After all, what sane, rational, Serious person would possibly question a bombing raid or missile strike that "likely" killed a murderous, top Al Qaeda fighter and struck a "devastating blow" to that group's operationg abilities? Having the story shaped this way also ensures that there is virtually no attention paid to the resulting civilian casualties (i.e., the slaughter of innocent people); most Americans, especially journalists, have been trained to ignore such deaths as nothing more than justifiable "collateral damage," especially when a murderous, top Al Qaeda fighter was killed by the bombs (besides, as Alan Dershowitz once explained, "civilians" in close enough proximity to a Top Terrorist themselves may very well bear some degree of culpability). The adolescent We-Got-the-Bad-Guy! headline also ensures there is no attention paid to the radicalizing effect of these civilian deaths and our attacks for that country and in the region.

Yet over and over and over, it turns out that these anonymous government assertions -- trumpeted by our mindless media -- are completely false. The Big Bad Guy allegedly killed in the strike ends up nowhere near the bombs and missiles. Sometimes, the very same Big Bad Guy can be used to justify different strikes over the course of many years (we know we said we killed him four times before, but this time we're pretty sure we got him), or he can turn up alive when it's time to re-trumpet the Al Qaeda threat (we said before we killed him in that devastating airstrike, but actually he's alive and more dangerous than ever!!). Just like the "we killed 30 extremists" claim or the "we got Al Qaeda's Number 3" boast, this is propaganda in its purest form, disseminated jointly by the U.S. Government and American media, and it happens over and over, compelling a rational person to conclude that it's clearly intentional by both parties.

Come 2020

Warning: Not for the faint of heart.

Fuck your new years celebrations.

What is there to celebrate? Our criminal-governmental rulers have invaded and pillaged the homes and villages of innocent people thousand of miles away from us. And now they're ready to desolate our continent while enslaving us in the process. Am I supposed to block all this out? So what if the conspiracy against feeling and common sense gives me bad looks and a bad name - what of them? Fuck those blind sheep. They will not see 2020 with the same ignorant eyes as they see 2010. In this next decade there will be resistance to the banking-military cartel and their criminal operations on this planet. The days of expressing rage on computer screens are over. Real politics plays out on the streets, not on blogs. I'm not interesting in just documenting the crimes of the banksters or raising questions about the government cover-up of 9/11. I want answers. I want accountability. I want to see a few evil men face justice. And I'm tired of pundits on television trivializing these important issues and laughing away all our problems. And I'm sick of fake politicians capitalizing on the people's pain while continuing the same corporatist agenda when they get into office. There is a political crisis emerging in the West, and in this next decade the smooth rubber will meet the crooked road. So put away your remote, my fellow human beings, and get off the couch. I'm not in the mood for another fucking sitcom.

These last ten years have taught me that staying silent in the face of ruthless liars and blood-thirsty criminals is a display of ignorance, not civility, and that abstaining from resisting their crimes is an act of betrayal against humanity's highest ideals. I've also learned that I'm not yet ready to give up truth and justice for convenience and security. The 'go with the flow' ethics that has gained ground in our culture needs to be uprooted because the current flow is bringing nothing but misery and slavery for everybody who is not part of the crooked elitist loop. Keeping quiet as more money is allocated for war, and more innocent bodies get buried on top of each other represents a submission to social fears. The time has come to abandon those fears, and embrace our moral power.

This is a time to get loud, and angry. Revolution is not something that is whispered. Change does not come when you speak under your breath, but when you're in over your head, and know you've crossed the line. And right now, a few lines need to be crossed. Tyranny has marched its banner in our noses for far too long not to be recognized, and it's just tempting us to resist it's force because it truly believes that we are no good, and that we will cower at the hour of revolution. The Bush administration pulled off 9/11 knowing they would get away with it because they're not afraid of the American people. These psychopaths are brash for a very good reason. Cheney still spews his crap on television because he discovered a nasty truth about the American people long ago. But this next decade will prove him and his crowd wrong. Contrary to popular programming, there are still men living in America. The decadent bug is not in everyone. And the long night of fear is coming to an end. I no longer anticipate the future as before, but intent on living for it. Even on dying for it. I'm too impatient for the lifestyle of tyranny. I will not hug Big Brother, I'm going to squeeze his balls and make him squeal because pain must be dealt. Banksters who have stolen from the people, lying politicians who have scammed the people, and war profiteers who have killed the people, must feel pain for all the dirt and evil they've committed. I want justice in this world. Is that asking too much? Am I crossing a line? If so, good.

Mistaken souls expect harmony and growth without confrontation. If we want change, we must get in the face of evil, and demand the uneasy answers. Mankind will not be redeemed without tragedy. So how can you expect a recovery when we haven't even experienced the climax yet? America is only at the beginning of its national crisis. An overflow of misery is rushing at us. The globalist authoritarians want us to be poor slaves, so that we cry for mercy and surrender ourselves to a faceless and undemocratic bureaucracy of death. These arrogant anti-humanists want people to go on their knees, and worship their new world order, after they have deprived them of their god-given liberties and wealth. But I will not take the hand of tyranny at the altar of global government. Mankind and slavery has always been a brutal marriage that ended in blood, so why do we expect things to be different this time around? Freedom's blood is still pumping in me; I will not tie the knot of my own imprisonment.

The criminal entities who control America are not giants of any kind. If the American people decide to rise up they can stare their rulers down very easily. And tyrants need to be stared down, and then told to go a corner like a bully in class. If we want to achieve freedom for America and all of mankind then waking up is not enough. We must get up and speak up. Evading the circumstances that we find ourselves in is out of the question. We all know what's happening. The war on terror is a racket, and an excuse to take away our god-given liberties. And the entire US armed forces stationed overseas are mercenaries because the military industrial complex is owned by criminal financiers. Anybody with common sense can see that the troops in the Middle East are not dying for their country's sake but for the benefit of big psychopathic corporations. They are not warriors fighting for liberty, but pawns of empire. These brave souls have been brainwashed. And they've strapped on for big daddy at the tenth of the price that Blackwater's dogs are being paid.

Meanwhile, the people of America, and the people of the world are being looted, beaten, and enslaved. The African people can tell you what kind of misery the thieving Western bankers have inflicted on their continent, and all the precious resources they've stolen behind their faceless veil. This basic truth doesn't have to be hammered into people's minds. The Third World knows the magnitude of corruption at the heart of all politics. And many Americans, too, have woken up to the situation. After all, this is 2010. The allure of the new millennium faded a long while ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't old enough to 'dance the night away,' and now I'm not young enough to just sit and watch television carelessly. I can't allow this world to slide into destruction and slavery. Staying under the radar does not sit well with my conscience. I currently lack a peace of mind. And it's not due to personal reasons. It all has to do with the criminal psychopaths who are running this world into the bloody ground. And mankind's problems will not just go away if I decide to take up meditation or if I escape to the Swiss Alps. Yogo will not quiet my spirit. Nor do I desire to quiet it. Tyrants feed on dead matter just as they feed on dead spirits. Keeping still on your ass will not bring justice into this world. The criminals behind the scenes must be fully engaged with. Evil must see my face, and realize once and for all that I am greater than it. And come 2020, I want to have a reason to celebrate.

But for now, brave souls, resist!

Daniel Hannan: Ten reasons to leave the EU

Daniel Hannan on why England should get the hell out of the EU.

Chris Hedges: Empire of Illusion

America has very few journalists or preachers who have the courage to speak their minds and tell the truth, but in Chris Hedges we find both identities in one man, which is very encouraging to see.

Although I disagree about much of his thoughts on Michael Jackson's death, I have a lot of respect for his conclusions on our fame-obsessed consumer culture, the imperial wars, American totalitarianism, the corporate-propagandist media, and the economic crisis. Still, I believe that he doesn't go far enough in his criticisms. According to moi, Hedges has a good general grasp of the issues, but his narrative is a little off the mark. He throws out "unfettered capitalism" to label the present destructive system a bit too much, when, as we well know, capitalism has long been forsaken by the American elite for a corporate-state partnership to screw the average citizen. In the last hundred years the American economy has not been unfettered or capitalistic, but almost the reverse, it has been tied down by a criminal financial and corporate elite, who are not interested in competition, but in enriching themselves at the expense of the nation.

And I'm also upset that Hedges has not questioned the validity of the official story of 9/11, which has served as the bedrock of tyranny's master bedroom in the world's new and ugly house. 9/11 should be the bulls-eye of any anti-war movement. Going into battle against the government at this stage without raising 9/11 is like facing down a bull without a red flag. Being anti-war but refusing to ask questions about 9/11 verges on the ridiculous. And I'm afraid Chris Hedges and others in the progressive hive are doing that. Or he may be for real, because he has denounced both of the two major parties on numerous occasions, which is a clear sign that he is half-awake. And although I don't particularly like his socialist leanings, I realize that his views are obviously based in a deep sense of social justice and religious morality, something that I can understand and even appreciate. Overall, I have little complaints and much admiration, because however ridiculous he may seem, he has unbelievable guts, which is an extreme rarity in our times. And any person who tells a piece of the truth about the government, and our own failings, is doing something right.

Loose Chains: The End of Compliance, and The Beginning of Resistance

“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger?”
Patrick Henry

America is on her death-bed, her body is decaying, and if the criminal elite have their way, her life will be ended quickly. But not painlessly. A mercy killing is not being planned. All the weaponry, all the laws, all the federal emergency protocols are pointing to the tried and true technique that has been practiced by all tyrannical regimes in history: a violent and ruthless repression of the people if they resist. Until that point comes, when extreme measures need to be taken to silence the American people, the State's owners are intent on using up the less violent but still oppressive methods of control, such as the silent subversion of the people's interests through the manipulation of everyday reality by endless propaganda, controlling political campaigns through bribery, and war by taxation. But these methods are no longer working on the American people as they once did. The elite are finding out that the 21st century is not as friendly to tyrants as the 20th century was.

Propaganda, bribery, and taxation can't destabilize the human spirit of liberty. Americans are starting to provide their own money to independent candidates in greater amounts, with Ron Paul being the leading figure in this change, thus the influx of corporate candidates will shrink in the coming years. Also, the principal source of information is not the corporate media anymore, which has long been an engine of thought control. Today, individual Americans are going through a de-brainwashing period on the internet and are beginning to discover new narratives about recent American history and the validity of their present leaders. Also, opposition to taxation by the federal government has grown in the past year, mainly in reaction to the bank bailouts, which saw large pools of taxpayer money handed over to criminal financiers and irresponsible institutions. And when it comes to the President's popularity, the mood has changed considerably. The feeling is no longer "yes we can," but "oh, no he didn't." But Americans have not yet begun to pull their earnings out. That time has not come yet.

But the hidden forces behind American politics have prepared well, their police state is of the first order. And the stormtroopers that showed up in Pittsburgh for the G20 conference are expected to make more appearances in the near future. Come 2010, they may even put some skin in the game because the well-connected elite believe that more violent instruments will be necessary to subdue the American people's will - and they're right. They have long realized that a slow death will not work because the patient has recovered consciousness and is resisting - America is waking up, and it is by no means a fleeting trend. There is no shut-off button available for the elite. 9/11 truth is not going away. The 'End the Fed' rallies are spreading across America, and are gaining in numbers. Also, talk of a coalition between libertarians and progressives to form a third party that can compete against the current two traitorous parties is intensifying. And the staying power of Alex Jones is certain by now.
And although a decade has passed since the government-sponsored terror attack on the American people occurred, the continual fear-mongering hasn't broken the American people. Deep down, people are not as frightened, or ignorant, as they appear. All the terroristic rhetoric dished out by Washington D.C and the propagandist media is not having any great impact on the American psyche. And the popularity of Ron Paul shows that despite tremendous odds, Americans are still capable of producing radical change.

More and more Americans are coming to accept, however reluctantly, the real situation their country is in, with less than 20 percent of the population supporting the Congress. And less than a third of the American people believe that Obama is taking the country in the right direction. Many political pundits on television are predicting a repeat of 1994, when Republicans retook the house and senate, but they are not paying attention to the grievances expressed by a majority of the American people - or perhaps they are totally clueless about the extend of the damage the government has done in the last ten-fifteen years. The superficial debate between liberals and conservatives is less likely to be tolerated this time around. Both republicans and democrats are equally blocking a genuine reconstruction of the modern political system. They are acting and thinking like children, throwing temper tantrums on national television - with record ratings. CNN's whole shtick is bringing live coverage of 'the real whores of Washington D.C' to the home viewer. I doubt Americans will take Washington's insults for much longer.

By all standards, the US federal government is illegitimate, and the Obama presidency has only reverberated this basic fact about the state of the nation. And nothing demonstrates this more clearly than the health-care 'debate'. What has transpired on Capitol Hill in the last few months is important not because it passed a historic health care bill, but because it revealed a disintegrating political class, with members of the senate directing their animosity toward each other, and disrespecting the whole process of democracy. It is evident that both houses are unable to passionately agree on reform in any pressing matter. Meanwhile, as the debate dragged on, the president sidelined himself, but not like a coach as Roosevelt did, or a cheerleader like Bush, but like a spectator, standing with the rest of us, - and all to the displeasure of his followers, and strangely, his foes.

Moreover, Americans are no longer displaying "cowardice before reality," which Nietzsche said was a trait of the Germans in his day. Americans are proving to be a much more defiant people, and are possessed with heroic instincts. Nietzsche went on to rightly predict the ugly turn that his sick bedfellows would take in the decades after his death, saying "the Germans will try everything to bring forth from a tremendous destiny - a mouse," (1). And Hitler was that cowardly specimen that Nietzsche envisioned. For all his exaggerated bodily movements, Adolf was a bashful mouse bankrolled by lions, who marched his racist battalions of mice in the second banker-instigated world war, which was a hopeless and phony cause from the start.

But the fate of Americans will be different. Out of their national catastrophe an eagle will rise. So those who fear that the United States will go down the path of Germany in the 1930's and cheer on an American Hitler supported by religious and nationalist ideologues, are forgetting an essential change that has occurred in our times - the psychological transformation of a significant amount of ordinary people, especially in America - where the consciousness revolution has helped people adjust to the hard, cold reality of life in the early 21st century. Granted, the fruits of this revolution have not yet hit our heads but it's there, above us, and those directly under can already feel the gravitational pull. And it seems to me that this is happening not just in America, but people on the whole planet are beginning to accept grasp the fact that economic recovery is not possible without political change, and political change is likewise not possible without spiritual growth. In other words, salvation will be found in the individual's rebirth - so expecting change in Washington is expecting the impossible.

And this new found wisdom means that we have to refuse any new world order, or for that matter, any order that is directed singularly out of a gun, and is not aligned with our values, ethics, spirit, philosophy, etc. So if your leader does not come in peace, then turn him away. Or, better yet, turn away yourself - and if he bothers to follow you, then make sure it is not to hell but to heaven, where he'll be met by a superior creative force - God.

II.

In America's first revolutionary war the idea of the divine right of kings was refuted, and in our own revolutionary time, another similar idea needs to be denied by the people, and that is the idea of"too big to fail." And here I don't mean just banks on wall st. We must be consistent in our criticism. If we look honestly, we'll see that what is "too big to fail" is "too big to exist" and the institution that best fits that description in our society is the State, even more so than the corporation and the bank, because the later two can't grow into monopolies without the muscle of the State. And to be clear, becoming large in a market economy is not the issue. I have no problem with companies that gain wealth and prestige in an environment of fair and honest competition, on the contrary, there's nothing greater for humanity than seeing good work being rewarded. What I have problem with is companies that get big for criminal reasons, and a government that is too big for its own good. People agree on this principle about athletes, when they disapprove of players who develop unusually large muscles by the use of illegal drugs, and even politicians stick their crooked noses in and criticize the players. But in government this idea has not taken hold, and it's not because of intellectual reasons. It's purely financial, because those who hate competition really hate competition, and those who love money really love money.

But unlike the fat rats on the hill or the fat cats on wall st., people in American society deeply believe in fairness, and honest work, which is why I have faith that more individuals will eventually find the government's laws morally bankrupt and withdraw their compliance from the system. But that is not enough because the violent elite could careless about the 'people's compliance.' So I hope that people will finally begin to endorse tax rebellions, general strikes, and other tactics that really pull the people's weight around. And we have a lot of excess weight - which means if we ever decide to get up and pound the streets, politics as usual will shake to its very core, and all that political and physical exercise will leave us and the fat cats & rats leaner. All that dead fat will come off, and the political process will run more efficiently as a result. But we must first realize the potential of change, because it is there for us to take advantage of. It is the people's voice that matters in all societies, and the new world order or anything of the like does not change that basic law of the political universe. As Hannah Arendt said:
It is the people's support that lends power to the institutions of a country, and this support is but the continuation of the consent that brought the laws into existence to being with. Under conditions of representative government the people are supposed to rule those who govern them. All political institutions are manifestations and materializations of power; they petrify and decay as soon as the living power of the people ceases to uphold them. (2)
Let's imagine a new future. It is not out of our horizon because the elevation of social and political consciousness has put a peaceful option before us: the overgrowing of the system. Or, to put it in Nietzschean terms, overcoming the system. This is accomplished at first by a vote of no-confidence in the present system, but resistance doesn't stop there, and is definitely not easy. The capacity to act freely is an individually and communal thing, and must be executed constantly. All steps into the lives of individuals and free communities by a central and authoritative government counts as social intrusion. Corporations will obviously not go away - they are here with us - but they have to adjust to a new economic and political environment. They will be restricted from using the people's resources or the government's laws for their own benefit. If you don't think this is achievable in our lifetime then you've given up on what humanity is capable of. We have the numbers, which means we have the power. It will not take all of us to engage in civil disobedience, just a small but passionate minority, of say, five or so million, on a constant and daily basis. What is in our way is not power but force, and force can be pushed back by power. Repressive violence is no match for an empowered and peaceful resistance that is supported by the people. The day will come when cops and military put down their weapons and join us in our task to bring a just order into the universe.

Hannah Arendt makes a valuable distinction between power, force, strength, and authority, terms that we think we know on the surface. Violence is not efficient, she argues, when it is not backed by the people's consent. "When commands are no longer obeyed, the means of violence are of no use." (3) And that is only achievable if we treat police officers in riot uniform with respect, however hard it may be, because our fight is not against human beings but against an unjust and undemocratic order, and a faceless conspiracy of evil.

Disobedience doesn't mean rebellion. I am not a rebel, and I am not advocating an armed resistance. To my eyes the true usurpers, the real insurgents are the violent criminals behind the present economic and political system. I, on the other hand, sincerely believe in the principles of law and order, and of just conduct in society. I respect every single human being, and I love mankind. But I can't accept this present order in the world, so if it means that I have to show a little bit of disrespect than so be it. I can't give my consent to the economic frauds that were orchestrated by the private bankers. I can't watch as corporate feudalism bleeds this world. I can't sit through another day of needless wars.

And I am not afraid to be called a dissenter, or a rebel, or an insurgent - because I am neither of the three. Such labels are foreign to my nature, so they can't stick to me. My objection is not against love and peace, but against hate and war. How can I stand for dissent when everything I say is an affirmation of what I believe in? Justice and Truth are not empty words for me; they are everything. I am not a mere rebel with a rock in hand, but a saint who is more interested in creating a just order than in disrupting an unjust one. I am more of a conformer than a resister, but I cannot surrender my conscience in the face of an evil aggression, whose brutality has cost the lives of far too many innocent human beings. And I will not be lied against, or witness man as he gets stripped of his divinity at the moment of his greatest potential. I take to heart Nietzsche's words that "In man creature and creator are united," and believe in the destiny of a free humanity. And I have faith in God's grace but I will not wait on scraped knees for him to come down, extend his hand and take man out of his misery. And I'm too independent to claw myself up on his tail and piggyback to the promised land. Besides, God has not shortchanged us - on the contrary, he has given us a moral and creative bent in our nature, leaving it up to us to realize our infinite potential. And I doubt change will come on a cross, with its feet dragged along in dirt. So put aside your hopes for a new-age messiah. It is you who will have to choose between compliance and resistance. Let's leave God out of it.
