Robert Parry, And Other Halfway Truth-Tellers

Robert Parry, a veteran investigative journalist, recipient of the George Polk Award for his reporting on the Iran-Contra scandal, founder of the website Consortium News, and author of several books including, Secrecy & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq, and, Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & 'Project Truth,' wrote an article on January 15, 2011, attacking the supporters of 9/11 truth, and defending the Bush administration's highly questionable narrative that Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda attacked America on September 11, 2001.

In his conceited and unwise attack piece, Parry sidesteps the facts that has motivated many well-intentioned and concerned citizens across the political spectrum, and from all around the world, to demand a new 9/11 investigation, saying that 9/11 truth activists believe in "preposterous notions," that do not deserve any critical attention from the mainstream media, and what he regards as the responsible and serious-minded center in American politics.

For the most part, Parry's conventional critique of the 9/11 truth and accountability campaign is not different from other journalists and commentators who go halfway towards calling for reform and government accountability, saying that 9/11 truth activists are childish and crazy, and that we should discuss serious and provable government crimes and deceptions. None of Parry's talking points are original or well thought out, he just has the balls to actually write on the record what he thinks about 9/11 truth in a detailed manner, and risks appearing the fool in the opening eyes of history. And there is no question that Parry is spouting foolish opinions about 9/11. In general, his line of thinking about 9/11 truth reveals the same intellectual dishonesty that is widely shared among the journalistic and political class in the United States and the West.

If Parry wasn't so smug, I wouldn't care. But his attitude that he knows better because he is an expert, and a professional journalist is hard to respect. Like other professional journalists he probably can't even contemplate the thought that bloggers, and regular citizens bested him at his own job, which is about uncovering and reporting the truth. Parry doesn't want to accept his own incompetence and blindness, instead, he wants to give himself and his profession the air of respectability.

But while alluding to the rhetoric of responsibility, suggesting that we must avoid giving fair treatment to "conspiracy theories", Parry fails to live up to his own standards by injecting into the discussion about the validity of 9/11 truth the murderous and deranged act by Jared Lee Loughner, who believed that the Bush administration was behind the attacks, as if his views about 9/11 had anything to do with choice to kill innocent human beings in a public plaza. Parry writes:
On Sunday, in a profile of alleged Tucson gunman Jared L. Loughner, the New York Times reported that as "a curious teenager," Loughner "became intrigued by antigovernment conspiracy theories, including that the Sept. 11 attacks were perpetrated by the government. ...

"His anger would well up at the sight of President George W. Bush, or in discussing what he considered to be the nefarious designs of government."

Given how a mentally disturbed young person can process information (or disinformation), it is incumbent on all of us who speak in today's public square to be responsible, especially when we make serious allegations like suggesting that Bush and the U.S. government "made" 9/11 happen.

The need for this careful behavior is true for the Right and it is true for the Left. The Center (including the mainstream press) also has a deep responsibility to examine suspicions of government wrongdoing when there is credible evidence and to have the courage to speak truth to power regardless of the pressures and consequences.

For the Center to renege on that duty (such as when the mainstream press attacked Gary Webb's Contra-cocaine reporting in the mid-to-late 1990s) may be rationalized as "good for the country" in the short-term (by discrediting ugly truths) but whitewashing only feeds the public's appetite for conspiracy theories on the Right and the Left.

In other words, to help avert future tragedies like the one in Tucson, all parts of the U.S. political/media system need to work better and take their responsibilities to the public more seriously. That would include not spreading wild accusations with weak or non-existent evidence, but it also would require holding Bush and his associates accountable for what they actually did.

Blaming society for the crimes of mass murderers is a wrong position to take. But, Parry is right about one thing. How we handle, digest, and process information has a deep impact on how we act. However, if being "responsible" means to hold one's tongue and refrain from saying controversial truths such as the Bush administration had a hand in 9/11, then "responsible" journalists are not journalists at all, but cowards, and fools.

According to Parry, the political center must hold government leaders accountable for documented crimes like torture and illegal spying, and use its influence to persuade people from looking too closely into the different accounts of what happened on 9/11, as he maintains that there is nothing there. But there is one problem. Who gets to define the center? The traditional left-center-right spectrum is outdated, and those who refer to it reveal their intellectual poverty about modern political discourse, and the changing nature of how voters view politics and government. What does the majority really believe in when it comes to September 11? According to a recent poll done in Germany, the nation of thinkers, almost 90 percent of Germans believe that the U.S. government lied about the events of September 11.

Parry and others in the media and politics who pride themselves on being rational, objective, and intellectually balanced, and for not being on either side of the political fringe, believe the impossible, that the Bush administration was not behind 9/11 despite all evidence to the contrary, such as the collapse of Building 7 (not hit by a plane), and the fact that Bush's younger brother, Marvin P. Bush, was connected to the security company Securacom that was appointed to provide security for the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11.

Parry and other truth deniers mistake their position as the center, deluding themselves that they are standing on the sacred middle ground, when it is really the position of the clueless, cowardly, and corrupted. If they are in the middle, it is not the middle of the political debate, but the middle in the race for the truth. And there is no honor to be gained by stopping at the mid-point in the race for the truth. A person dedicated to the truth and facts must complete the race. If they ever pick themselves up, and run to the finish line, they'll notice that the banner awaiting them reads, "9/11 = Inside Job" because that is the truth of our time. It is shocking and difficult to accept, but the truth should be celebrated upon first contact because it can bring an end to the wars in the Middle East, help us identify the real war criminals of our era, and restore constitutional government in the United States.

But the truth is not celebrated by the likes of Parry. Instead, it is mocked, and with it, any hope for freedom, justice, and democracy. The cry that is heard from many so-called "serious minded" liberals and progressives is this: that we should channel our energies into documenting and revealing real crimes, not obsessing over fanciful stories about government involvement in the 9/11 attacks, and other mysterious terrorist events like the bombings of 7/7. This view is mostly political motivated, contrary to what Parry and others say. It brings to mind the line, "Vote for Gore, not Nader" because Nader is unreasonable, radical, and won't win. It is all about winning for these political crackheads. The truth matters little.

A common idea that is held by members of the political and media elite, and uncritically accepted by the alternative media as well, is the idea that public discourse should be divided into two fields - proper criticism, and conspiracy theories - and issues like 9/11 truth deserve to be tossed on the side of conspiracy theories, to be ignored, and buried. People who say that the Bush administration was involved in 9/11 are uttering nonsense, and should not be given a platform to speak. They should be driven out of the political discussion, and excluded to the boundaries of society and politics.

Dividing the debate over what really happened on 9/11 into rational and irrational is a nice sleight of hand trick used by propagandists that is meant to fool naive and clueless people who believe in science and rationality, but are not independent thinkers, so that when they're told that something is unscientific and incorrect they take it at face value, and don't do any serious research into the topic on their own. I don't think Parry is knowingly using this slick propaganda trick to fool his readers, I think he is a well-intentioned fool who can't handle the truth and so diverts to the rational/irrational talking point.

It is natural that Parry wants to feel good about himself, and sticking by the official narrative allows him to feel good. Admitting that you were fooled by a big lie, after believing it and actively defending it for so long, could make a person undergo a deep emotional and psychological change, especially a journalist who takes his profession as seriously as Parry does. It is understandably difficult for someone in the position of Parry to accept that the people you've demonized and denounced as "truthers" and "nutjobs" were not crazy after all, but that they were right all along.

And so, in order to avoid the painful acceptance of their own gullibility, Parry and millions of others paint 9/11 truth activists as irrational, nonsensical, and wacky, rather than discuss the scientific, circumstantial, and political evidence, and really dig into the reasons for why people have come to conclusions about 9/11 that are completely different from the establishment, and the mainstream media.

Kevin Ryan wrote an excellent and detailed response to Parry's article on January 30, 2011, effectively checkmating Parry by exposing his faulty reasoning and lack of understanding about the basic facts that underpin the calls for a new 9/11 investigation. Ryan said:
In his own recent, over-the-top anti-truth screed, “The 9/11 ‘Truth’ Parlor Game”, Parry exhibits the same disdain for facts and evidence that he attributes to these right-wing propagandists. Parry uses the derogatory term “truthers,” which he continues to put in quotation marks throughout the article, when referring to the people he is criticizing. This indicates that he knows he does not have the facts and evidence on his side and instead must resort to name-calling. Many 9/11 truth advocates, like myself, find this term to be offensive yet the corporate media and Robert Parry often use it in order to belittle us without addressing the evidence.

I recommend that you read Ryan's response in full. He makes so many good and truthful points that no honest person can dismiss them as conspiratorial, wacky, irrational, or irresponsible.

What could be more responsible than finding the facts about the biggest event of our lifetime? And what could be more irresponsible on the part of journalists and the wider public than refusing to face the truth and sheepishly sticking by a narrative about the threat of terrorism that was deviously constructed by criminals in the Bush administration and the national security apparatus of the United States government?

Ryan is the grown up, and Parry is the child. Parry can't stomach the truth about 9/11, and that's alright. A lot of people can't. But what's not okay is his mean-spirited name-calling, ignorantly demeaning concerned citizens and lovers of freedom with terms like "truthers" and "conspiracy theorists." Those of us who want a new investigation into 9/11 are friends of humanity, and we do not deserve such treatment. As Mark Twain said, "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Maybe Parry and millions of others who still hold onto the official 9/11 myth will soon realize the truth. They'll discover what a lot of us already know, that none of us are perfect, that we can be wrong, and that we are not as rational as we like to think we are.

The Terrorizing Truth About 9/11: It's Not A Matter of Keeping Secrets, But Maintaining a Grand Myth

The truth about 9/11 is slowly gaining the status of common knowledge, but it's been a real and frustrating decade-long struggle to set the historical record straight. The are still many people who can't believe that the Bush administration, and powerful decision-makers in the U.S. security apparatus could, first of all, pull off such a treacherous fraud, and second, that they were able to keep it a secret from other members of the U.S. government, the media, the American people, and the world for such a long period of time. Such a denial of the truth about the 9/11 attacks can't be attributed to blindness, or the cowardly avoidance of reality, but an underestimation of the power of myths in shaping our lives and our thoughts, and influencing the way we register facts and events in our world.

People who still believe the official 9/11 story often make the mistake in thinking that if the Bush administration really did 9/11 then there would be leaks, or government officials would come forward and speak to the media. Former CIA officer Valerie Plame expressed the widely shared view that 9/11 couldn't be a big lie because the American government can't keep a secret when she was asked at a recent public event in the University of Florida about supporting a new 9/11 investigation. The Gainesville Sun's Nathan Crabbe reported:

Several 9-11 truthers — who believe the fall of the World Trade Towers was a conspiracy — questioned Wilson about whether she supported a new investigation into the event. She dismissed the idea that such a conspiracy could be kept under wraps.

"Having worked for the government, I know it's really, really hard to keep a secret," she said.

The view that America's secretive government can't keep a secret is wrong for so many reasons, especially considering the fact that an even more secretive and criminal cabal is working within the government, doing everything in their power to misinform and bamboozle the American people. Their ability to keep secrets among themselves is well proven. If it wasn't for the courageous and truth-seeking Tillman family and others, we would've never known the truth about the death of Pat Tillman. Top military officials deliberately lied, and kept the truth hidden in order to sell a public myth about Tillman.

This "government can't keep a secret" view overlooks the reality that the Bush administration operated more like a gang than a government. In truth, the U.S. government as we know it didn't attack America and then lie to the world about the event. Instead, 9/11 was done by a few, well-organized individuals who hijacked the White House in 2000, and abused the machinery of government to promote their own evil ends. This small, tight-knit group that was involved in the planning and execution of 9/11 are not interested in revealing the truth, but in keeping secrets. Why would they leak secrets? If they spilled their guts about how they caused and covered up the greatest crime of the century they would be charged, and most likely found guilty, and then killed and/or imprisoned for life.

Individuals who lend their support to heinous and immoral acts like 9/11 most likely believe that such violence and deception is necessary and justifiable in the grand scheme of things. They believe that rulers have god-like status and can kill innocent people. Such violence is committed for a greater purpose in their minds, and to achieve many new changes that previously would've been resisted by both members of the government and the public. The new changes that 9/11 caused is obvious, they include: 1) public support for a global war on terror, and American wars in the Middle East; 2) the acceleration of the destruction of America's constitutional government and the further rise and influence of the National Security State; 3) profit for a few connected corporations and individuals that are close to the military-industrial complex; 4) the creation of new federal departments like Homeland Security that are unconstitutional and function as a police state to repress the American people and keep them from making serious political change; and, 5) 9/11 caused a deep psychological change in the people, making them fear that "terrorism" presents an existential threat to their personal safety, and the safety of their country.

Tear Down This Myth: The Cry For Freedom In Our Time

Dean Hartwell, author of "Dead Men Talking: Consequences of Government Lies," "Truth Matters: How the Voters Can Take Back Their Nation" and, "Planes without Passengers: the Faked Hijackings of 9/11," writes:

Most people believe the myth that Osama bin Laden planned and orchestrated the attacks of 9/11. Stating and re-stating this untruth has become a convenient way for our leaders to steer the public away from the real perpetrators of the crimes of that day and for continuing an unending battle called the "War on Terror."

Recognizing that the official 9/11 story is a myth, and not the truth, is a big challenge. But it has to be faced. It is a revelation that can change our entire world order for the better, and bring down the actors who are responsible for the construction and maintenance of the myth.

Tearing down the myth about 9/11 has not been an easy task, it is the psychological Berlin Wall of our era, but it is being teared down bit by bit. Richard Falk, a retired Princeton professor of international law, and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, has lent his expertise and credibility to the global effort to raise awareness about 9/11 truth, and has repeatedly called for a new investigation of 9/11. He recently wrote: "To seek further inquiry into the unanswered questions about 9/11 is surely not an unreasonable position." Falk has come under fire for his outspoken and fearless call for truth by UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon, and US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, who said: "In my view, Mr. Falk’s latest commentary is so noxious that it should finally be plain to all that he should no longer continue in his position on behalf of the UN."

Ban Ki-Moon, Rice, and other public representatives who denounce the truth will eat their words soon enough. It is clear to any one with any knowledge of 9/11 facts that Falk's presence in the United Nations gives that institution a great deal of dignity and credibility. He is a moral, wise, and courageous voice on the international stage. It would be a sad day for humanity and a serious blow to the quest for peace and justice in the Middle East if he were to be removed from the United Nations.

The Progressive's Matthew Rothschild is one of few in the media who supports Falk's right to free speech. He wrote on January 29, 2011 that a new 9/11 investigation "wouldn't hurt," and that "Falk shouldn’t be punished for a thought crime."

It is a matter of time before more journalists speak up about a new 9/11 investigation. The official myth about that day has caused incalculable suffering in Iraq and Afghanistan, and emboldened our Western governments to take away our rights and enact police state laws under the banner of protecting us from terrorists.

In the book "The French Revolution: A History" the Scottish writer Thomas Carlyle said: "Where thou findest a Lie that is oppressing thee, extinguish it." We should all listen to him in these times. Living with a Big Lie is not healthy. The 9/11 myth has destroyed our freedoms and transformed our democratic governments in the West into full-fledged police states. We must defy our current so-called leaders, not deify them. They don't deserve our respect and confidence. We must demand that they help us "Tear Down This Myth," or see their credibility crushed under the rubble of history.

Al Jazeera reported today:

[Al Jazeera reporter] Ayman Mohyeldin reports that eyewitnesses have said "party thugs" associated with the Egyptian regime's Central Security Services - in plainclothes but bearing government-issued weapons - have been looting in Cairo. Ayman says the reports started off as isolated accounts but are now growing in number.
The Telegraph reports:
"Thugs" going around on motorcycles looting shops and houses, according to Al Jazeera. They say they are getting more and more reports of looting. More worryingly, one group of looters who were captured by citizens in the upmarket Cairo district of Heliopolis turned out to have ID cards identifying them as members of the regime security forces.

In an interview on Aljazeera Arabic, Zewail called for fundamental change in Egypt, not just cosmetic alterations. He gave as the causes for the current uprising:

Revolution: Made In The U.S.A.

Of all the revolutions and great political changes that are likely to occur in our lifetime, and it looks like there will be plenty, the one that will bear the most significance for the world and for history is a new American revolution. You can call it a restoration of the original American revolution, it really doesn't matter how we come to define the change, the point is that revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, and other volatile countries in the Middle East are but the harbinger of a great political transformation in Washington and other Western capitals.

A strong case could be made that America is the country that most needs political reform and political change in our era. America is currently ruled by thieves, kleptocrats, and traitors, who will not hesitate from switching their methods of control if events on the ground demand such a shift. They are currently imposing their unlawful rule through propaganda and deception, but, if needed, they will use force and brutal repression against the American people. The U.S. government and other Western governments have already made preparations to crush protests, which will surely take place as the global economic crisis gets worse.

But repression won't work. Once the American people decide to take to the streets, joined by people elsewhere, and call for real transparency, freedom, and justice in their country, it will be game over for America's barbaric rulers and the end of the false reality that America is free and democratic. When more people in America wake up to the real reality of their country - that 9/11 was an inside job, that America has remained in an official state of emergency for almost a decade and perhaps even more, that their national leaders are either political puppets, or worse, traitors, and that their constitutional government has been hijacked by rascals and looters, and replaced with a tyrannical and lawless National Security State - the entire country will get angry, rightfully, and demand drastic change in Washington.

So while Egypt is in crisis right now, and the entire Middle East too, America - along with the Western world - will soon find itself in a greater, and much more profound crisis. But I am honestly confident that the American people will resolve their country's political crisis once they are given all the facts and properly informed about the criminality of their treasonous leaders. America has faced national crises in the past, and overcame them while still preserving for future generations of Americans - and all of mankind - the ideals of freedom and "government of the people, for the people, and by the people." I don't think that legacy will change in our era because the American people are noble-spirited and hate imperialism and unjust domination. I'm hopeful that a new party led by a new Lincoln will rise, or a new revolution led by a new Washington will happen. Or some great change.

What America represents on the world scene now is a shame. The fact that the most powerful superpower in the world is also the biggest anti-revolutionary and anti-freedom force in the world is obviously disheartening for people who love America, independence, and self-government. States that are anti-freedom and anti-justice are by default anti-order and anti-security. America is such a state.

If true and just American leaders don't rise and give voice to great democratic reforms in America, and replace the empire with the original republic, then this new era of revolution and change that we are watching unfold across the world will take a longer time to mature and develop, and involve much bloodshed and suffering. The only hope is that the American people will retake their government soon, implement necessary democratic reforms, and honor its constitution along with the men who died for it throughout its history.

A lot of people have pointed out that Egyptian riot police are using American-made tear gas canisters against the Egyptian people, highlighting the fact that America is on the side of the dictators against the revolutionaries throughout the Arab world, of the status quo against popular change, and while this is a sad reflection of the current state of American leadership, let's not forget that so many other things are also made in the great U.S.A., above all, revolution. 1776 opened the floodgates of revolution and political change. The prospects of freedom for mankind would be slim if it wasn't for the Declaration of Independence, and American revolutionaries. America's greatest exports are its exceptional leaders, ideas, and words, from Jefferson and Washington down to Kennedy and King; from "All men are created equal" to "I have a dream." Very few nations can lay claim to such a noble and honorable heritage. The American founding fathers acted on revolutionary ideas and principles, which are still revolutionary today, and gave birth to a world-transformative change, with effects still being felt today, more than 200 hundred years later, especially in the Middle East which is ripe for American-style revolutions.

The young people who are protesting their dictatorial government in Egypt are Jeffersonians, not Khomeinis. They are not anti-Western Islamists crying for a new Muhammad, or shouting Allahu Akbar, instead, they are demanding their natural rights and individual freedom. They want a secular state and good government. One protester said: "We will not be silenced, whether you're a Christian, whether you're a Muslim, whether you're an atheist, you will demand your goddamn rights, and we will have our rights, one way or the other! We will never be silenced."

America still stands as an example for all mankind. No other country has carved its destiny with the ideals of freedom and equality in mind. John Adams wrote:
“I always consider the establishment of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in Providence for the illumination of the ignorant, and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth.”
America has not even begun to reach the heights that it is capable of reaching. It is not in decline, but in a period of transition. How can a country with such a great Constitution and an admirable legacy of righting wrongs when pressed by a moral national conscience ever be in decline? Its greatness will be restored, and it will be led again by noble and virtuous leaders, not the current terrorists, charlatans, and thieves.

As individuals and nations, no matter who or where, we all have decide to be on the right side of history, on the side of individual liberty, not government tyranny - of order, not anarchy - and of justice, not the side of nothing. In place of liberty, justice, and order, we'll get tyranny, or anarchy, or nothing at all - total chaos and an absence of civilization. But people everywhere must have all three - liberty, justice, and order - to live with dignity and enjoy the gift of life.

Making great political changes is the task of our generation. We must tackle the crises of our time, and right the ship of state in our countries. Righting the ship of state means that we must stand by the truth and demand that the real criminals who did 9/11 and brought war to the Middle East face justice. Understanding the truth about 9/11, and why there is a global war on terror which only increases suffering and inequality in the world, requires great psychological change, self-examination, and some humility. Acknowledging that we were fooled is never an easy thing to do. But it is better to accept our errors and learn to correct them than suffer under official lies like "terrorism is an existential threat" that are constructed to prop up a system of tyranny and the tricksters who serve it.

I believe the day of justice will come. Robert Lanza, who is the Chief Scientific Officer at Advanced Cell Technology, and Adjunct Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, wrote an article last year called, "Judgement Day is Coming. Science Suggests Justice Is Inescapable," saying that "Justice is built into the fabric of nature." If that is true, then our future looks bright.

Thomas Carlyle believed that justice served as the foundation of all nations. In his Inaugural Address at Edinburgh in 1866 he said:
"In the tragedies of Sophocles there is a most deep-toned recognition of the eternal justice of Heaven, and the unfailing punishment of crime against the laws of God. I believe you will find in all histories of nations, that this has been at the origin and foundation of them all ; and that no nation which did not contemplate this wonderful universe with an awestricken and reverential belief that there was a great unknown, omnipotent, and all-wise and all-just Being, superintending all men in it, and all interests in it,--no nation ever came to very much, nor did any man either, who forgot that. If a man did forget that, he forgot the most important part of his mission in this world." (Thomas Carlyle. Inaugural Address at Edinburgh, April 2nd 1866. Selected Essays by Thomas Carlyle. pg 456).
Unjust men like Mubarak, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Kissinger, and other unjust leaders around the world can't comprehend "the eternal justice of Heaven." Power is their only god. But our universe is not about power alone. It matters what we do with power. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good." The dictators in the Middle East and the tricksters in power in America don't stand a chance against the awakened forces of good. Their day in the sun has passed. Their downfall is coming.

Why Israelis aren’t thrilled by the prospect of a democratic Egypt

Why Israelis aren’t thrilled by the prospect of a democratic Egypt

Israeli leaders used to say that democracy in the Arab world is the key to peace and prosperity in the region. So why are they so unhappy with the current demonstrations?

By Eyal Clyne
972 Magazine
January 29, 2011

Four months ago, deputy-Foreign Minister Ayalon ,who often serves as media front for Foreign Minister Lieberman, addressed the high-level audience of ministers, speakers of parliaments and politicians from across the globe about the lack of democracy in the Middle East”, according to the Israeli embassy to the US. Ayalon apparently said (highlights are mine):

“If the Middle East was more democratic, then there would be no conflict, as history has proven that, in general, democracies don’t fight each other or send terrorist proxies. Our conflict is not over territory or resources but over basic ideology, Israel is not accepted in the region because it is democratic. […] I am embarrassed to be the only speaker from a democracy in our region.” .

Given Israel’s complaints over the lack of democracy in the Middle East, one would expect it to be encouraged by the winds of change blowing from Algeria, Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt, and possibly Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Sudan. But this is not the case. Although Netanyahu specifically ordered his ministers not to comment on the Egyptian issue, at least one of his cabinet members did. “We believe that Egypt is going to overcome the current wave of demonstrations”, s/he told TIME Magazine. The minister added: “I’m not sure the time is right for the Arab region to go through the democratic process”, suggesting that instead of an open and free elections, what the Egyptians really need is “a process” that should “take generations”; and concluded with wishful thinking: “We do believe the regime is strong enough to overcome it”.

Buckshot & 9th Wonder - Here We Go

Whoopi Goldberg & The View Poke Fun at Former Gov. Jesse Ventura For Asserting His Rights

On Monday January 24, 2011, the AP reported that, "Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura sued the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration on Monday, alleging full-body scans and pat-downs at airport checkpoints violate his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures." Millions of passengers in the United States are sympathetic to Ventura's efforts, and would like the TSA to terminate its heavy-handed security policy which involves body scanners, and TSA agents giving people of all ages aggressive and humiliating pat-downs.

Back in November, a Memphis pilot named Michael Roberts also sued the TSA because of its intrusive security procedures. Roberts gave an interview to journalist Kevin Gosztola in November, voicing his frustrations that the freedoms and dignity of the American people are being trashed by the TSA. Gosztola:
Roberts, who has been running FedUpFlyers.org and receiving feedback from pilots, TSA workers and travelers, seconds this idea that Americans are too compliant and says that, while his colleagues and other travelers agree with what he is doing but say they can't stand up because "they have to travel for work" or they've "got a family to feed." He says they "hate what's happening" and "absolutely do not agree with it." But, the way it works, the ability to travel or put food on the table, is being held over their heads and it makes people who want to act out afraid of fighting back.

This, Roberts contends, is "terrorism." It's the definition of terrorism, which Roberts characterizes as "coercion by fear." The government is using "psychological stress and manipulation to make people comply with their abusive demands." (Gosztola: Why the Battle Against TSA Groping and Body Scanners is Justified; November 20, 2010).
Roberts' characterization of the TSA's policy as terrorism is echoed by many others, including Paul Craig Roberts, who worked in the Reagan administration, and is a former editor of the Wall Street Journal. Roberts wrote in November in an article called, "TSA Gestapo Empire," that the U.S. government manufactures the threat of terrorism in order to make the American people accept unconstitutional and dictatorial policies such as forcing people to go through unnecessary and humiliating security procedures at airports. Roberts wrote:
With such expensive counter-terrorism activities, both in terms of the hard-pressed taxpayers' money and civil liberties, one would think that bombs were going off all over America. But, of course, they aren't. There has not been a successful terrorist act since 9/11, and thousands of independent experts doubt the government's explanation of that event.

Subsequent domestic terrorist events have turned out to be FBI sting operations in which FBI agents organize not-so-bright disaffected members of society and lead them into displaying interest in participating in a terrorist act. Once the FBI agent, pretending to be a terrorist, succeeds in prompting all the right words to be said and captured on his hidden recorder, the "terrorists" are arrested and the "plot" exposed.

The very fact that the FBI has to orchestrate fake terrorism proves the absence of real terrorists.

If Americans were more thoughtful and less gullible, they might wonder why all the emphasis on transportation when there are so many soft targets. Shopping centers, for example. If there were enough terrorists in America to justify the existence of Homeland Security, bombs would be going off round the clock in shopping malls in every state. The effect would be far more terrifying than blowing up an airliner.

Indeed, if terrorists want to attack air travelers, they never need to board an airplane. All they need to do is to join the throngs of passengers waiting to go through the TSA scanners and set off their bombs. The TSA has conveniently assembled the targets. (Roberts: TSA Gestapo Empire; November 23, 2010).
A lot of people in America have trouble accepting the fact that leaders of the United States government are practicing terrorism and techniques of fear against them. As a result, dictatorial policies, nasty pat-downs, and everything under the empire's sun is justified by these ignorant and fearful people as being necessary for "security." They argue that if people don't do what TSA agents say then they will cause further discord and chaos, and only make matters worse. Better to just shut up, and believe you're in good hands. Why sue? Why be a troublemaker? That has always been the position of the herd-mind.

But some of us know better, like Jesse Ventura. Every once in a while societies need the bravery and tenacity of outsiders like Ventura to shake the ordinary people up out of their state of mindlessness, make them think critically about their reality and world, and show them how they have lost touch with their humanity. Usually outsiders are cast off from society. In earlier times they used to be pushed to the outskirts, or up in the mountains. The herd is secure in the fact that if outsiders, who have strange and heretical views, don't live among them then they wouldn't be mentally disturbed by their critical and troubling thoughts about their society, allowing them to go on with their lives as if all was well.

In our day outsiders are cast from society and the public dialogue via language and media. People who make heretical statements like the leaders of the Bush administration and other agencies in the United States government staged the events of 9/11 are branded as "freaks" or "crazies" or "conspiracy theorists." Such mean-spirited labels are given to delegitimize certain views, and ban them from proper discussion. Another technique is making jokes about people who hold views like 9/11 was an inside job. Humor helps breaks the tension and eases discomfort in the herd mind which are caused by heretical views. And this coping technique is mostly unconscious, although some individuals intentionally laugh off statements that threaten the established order because they could stand trial if the people found out that their leaders are guilty of murder and deception. You''ll notice this technique in this video of Whoopi Goldberg and the "ladies" of The View poking fun at Ventura for suing the TSA.

Ventura is suing the TSA not for purposes of attention seeking, or to make a political point, but mostly because he believes that he will regain his dignity that he lost when he was touched in his private parts by TSA agents. It is no doubt an admirable stance. The "ladies" of The View, who have so much admiration for authority, and so little respect for Ventura, don't know any better. You will waste your energy by getting mad at such ignorant people. They are lost and dumb. That is why they laugh at a brave, honorable, and wonderful man like Jesse for standing up for himself, and for his country. They will recognize that standing up for freedom is not a laughing matter, and come to regret their ugly behavior in the future, when the terrorizing TSA and the U.S. National Security State become fully discredited in the eyes of the American people, and the world.

Are We Witnessing the Start of a Global Revolution?

Are We Witnessing the Start of a Global Revolution?
By Andrew Gavin Marshall
Global Research
January 27, 2011

For the first time in human history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive... The resulting global political activism is generating a surge in the quest for personal dignity, cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world painfully scarred by memories of centuries-long alien colonial or imperial domination... The worldwide yearning for human dignity is the central challenge inherent in the phenomenon of global political awakening... That awakening is socially massive and politically radicalizing... The nearly universal access to radio, television and increasingly the Internet is creating a community of shared perceptions and envy that can be galvanized and channeled by demagogic political or religious passions. These energies transcend sovereign borders and pose a challenge both to existing states as well as to the existing global hierarchy, on top of which America still perches...

The youth of the Third World are particularly restless and resentful. The demographic revolution they embody is thus a political time-bomb, as well... Their potential revolutionary spearhead is likely to emerge from among the scores of millions of students concentrated in the often intellectually dubious "tertiary level" educational institutions of developing countries. Depending on the definition of the tertiary educational level, there are currently worldwide between 80 and 130 million "college" students. Typically originating from the socially insecure lower middle class and inflamed by a sense of social outrage, these millions of students are revolutionaries-in-waiting, already semi-mobilized in large congregations, connected by the Internet and pre-positioned for a replay on a larger scale of what transpired years earlier in Mexico City or in Tiananmen Square. Their physical energy and emotional frustration is just waiting to be triggered by a cause, or a faith, or a hatred...

[The] major world powers, new and old, also face a novel reality: while the lethality of their military might is greater than ever, their capacity to impose control over the politically awakened masses of the world is at a historic low. To put it bluntly: in earlier times, it was easier to control one million people than to physically kill one million people; today, it is infinitely easier to kill one million people than to control one million people.[1]

- Zbigniew Brzezinski

Former U.S. National Security Advisor

Co-Founder of the Trilateral Commission

Member, Board of Trustees, Center for Strategic and International Studies

An uprising in Tunisia led to the overthrow of the country’s 23-year long dictatorship of President Ben Ali. A new ‘transitional’ government was formed, but the protests continued demanding a totally new government without the relics of the previous tyranny. Protests in Algeria have continued for weeks, as rage mounts against rising food prices, corruption and state oppression. Protests in Jordan forced the King to call on the military to surround cities with tanks and set up checkpoints. Tens of thousands of protesters marched on Cairo demanding an end to the 30-year dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak. Thousands of activists, opposition leaders and students rallied in the capitol of Yemen against the corrupt dictatorship of President Saleh, in power since 1978. Saleh has been, with U.S. military assistance, attempting to crush a rebel movement in the north and a massive secessionist movement growing in the south, called the “Southern Movement.” Protests in Bolivia against rising food prices forced the populist government of Evo Morales to backtrack on plans to cut subsidies. Chile erupted in protests as demonstrators railed against rising fuel prices. Anti-government demonstrations broke out in Albania, resulting in the deaths of several protesters.

It seems as if the world is entering the beginnings of a new revolutionary era: the era of the ‘Global Political Awakening.’ While this ‘awakening’ is materializing in different regions, different nations and under different circumstances, it is being largely influenced by global conditions. The global domination by the major Western powers, principally the United States, over the past 65 years, and more broadly, centuries, is reaching a turning point. The people of the world are restless, resentful, and enraged. Change, it seems, is in the air. As the above quotes from Brzezinski indicate, this development on the world scene is the most radical and potentially dangerous threat to global power structures and empire. It is not a threat simply to the nations in which the protests arise or seek change, but perhaps to a greater degree, it is a threat to the imperial Western powers, international institutions, multinational corporations and banks that prop up, arm, support and profit from these oppressive regimes around the world. Thus, America and the West are faced with a monumental strategic challenge: what can be done to stem the Global Political Awakening? Zbigniew Brzezinski is one of the chief architects of American foreign policy, and arguably one of the intellectual pioneers of the system of globalization. Thus, his warnings about the 'Global Political Awakening' are directly in reference to its nature as a threat to the prevailing global hierarchy. As such, we must view the 'Awakening' as the greatest hope for humanity. Certainly, there will be mainy failures, problems, and regressions; but the 'Awakening' has begun, it is underway, and it cannot be so easily co-opted or controlled as many might assume.

One of the most striking aspects of the WikiLeaks debate from the start has been the identical mindset of political and media figures and the full consensus among them in condemning that group; in almost every debate I did on television, radio and everywhere else, it was impossible to distinguish between the views on these leaks from politicians and journalists, as they read from the same anti-WikiLeaks script. With a few exceptions, exactly the same has been true of Democrats and Republicans: there has been full-scale bipartisan consensus such that it's impossible to distinguish between the "two sides" on this issue.

New York Republican Peter King has introduced a bill that would protect the army of citizen spies Homeland Security hopes to recruit under Janet Napolitano’s “See Something, Say Something” snoop campaign from lawsuits brought by innocent people wrongly accused of being terrorists or extremists.

“A top US lawmaker unveiled legislation on Wednesday to protect individuals who tip off authorities to potential extremist threats from lawsuits, in the event that they turn out to finger innocents,” reports AFP.

House Homeland Security Chairman King, who is pushing the “See Something, Say Something Act,” wants to shield “good citizens who report suspicious activity” from facing the consequences of misidentifying innocent behavior as extremism or terror.

Give "V" A Chance

"This night is worth a world; it is the night of truth," wrote French-Algerian writer Albert Camus on August 25, 1944, the day of the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation during World War Two. The French Resistance is serving as an inspiration for the fighters of freedom in our time, who are joined in a transnational and peaceful struggle against the global totalitarian, traitorous, and tyrannical forces behind the global War on Terror, and the New World Order. As with the French Resistance, the symbol of "V" is being used as the expression of a free, united, and brave populace against the unlawful rule of an authoritarian government in the United States. It is also a marking point to let the hidden enemies of freedom know that their covert plans to enslave America and other Western nations, binding all of us under the permanent rule of a global oligarchy and a transnational police state, will fail.

Alex Jones and Infowars.com started the present-day "V" for Victory campaign last week, introducing it through a video announcement by Alex and an article co-written by Alex and Paul Joseph Watson called "You Are The Resistance Against The DHS Occupation Of America." Since its launch, posters marked with "V" as well as "The Answer to 1984 is 1776" have been plastered by citizens across America and the world as an act of defiance against government lawlessness and government tyranny. Paul Joseph Watson explained the meaning of the symbol, and the rationale behind the use of it in the 21st century's struggle for freedom in his article "The Meaning of V":

The launch of the Infowars V For victory campaign is partly a tribute to resistance movements throughout the ages who against all odds have stood up against tyranny. It is also about sending a message to Homeland Security and the new world order in general that we will not meekly accept the destruction of America and its replacement with a decaying banana republic in which people are told to inform on each other and a country in which anyone who exercises their constitutional rights or criticizes the state is labeled a terrorist, which is exactly the case in the DHS’ own internal documents.

This is about re-asserting the fact that our lives are led by the pursuit of freedom, prosperity and happiness – the American dream – and not by fear, division and intimidation. This is about sending a message to the American people that we should stand united against the abuses of big government, not become tattle-tales for the state.

Time will tell how far and wide the symbol of "V" will spread. If it spreads like a virus for liberty, sparking the inner conscience of individuals and arousing their curiosity about the campaign to abolish the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank, the lie about 9/11, and other revelations, then it will do real good. I doubt another symbol will come to replace "V" in the near future because it has deep historical roots, and it transcends borders as it is easily recognizable and identifiable as the universal sign of peace. Scottish writer and historian Thomas Carlyle wrote that "of man's whole terrestrial possessions and attainments, unspeakably the noblest are his Symbols, divine or divine-seeming ; under which he marches and fights, with victorious assurance," (Thomas Carlyle: The French Revolution: A History; pg 8).

Such a symbol as "V" properly and powerfully expresses the sacred struggle for freedom, and if we use it correctly and lawfully, then it will be an integral part of the campaign to save our democratic institutions, dethrone the security states that have risen unlawfully and unnecessarily in our nations, and restore the rule of law. We will know complete victory when America's constitutional republic finally lives up to its ideal as the beacon of the world, and the dream of world peace, shared by both John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., will become a reality in this century.

Undoubtedly, there will always be cynics who trample the dreams of other men - they have already begun to criticize the "V" symbol as not reflective of a grassroots campaign for liberty, but we should not pay attention to them, and neither to the opponents of democracy who can't stand the sight of proactive and peaceful citizens taking their future into their own hands. We must keep our eyes on the ultimate goal - restoring freedom and the rule of law in America, and the West.

Our struggle for freedom is different than the struggle waged by French Resistance. We face the prospects of a disorganized global chaos, or an organized transnational tyranny. The French people suffered under a different enemy - a foreign tyranny for four years, most of which were spent with the fear that they could die any day at the hands of their occupiers and those who helped them, like the Milice, a French paramilitary force that was installed by the Vichy Regime on January 30, 1943. They had a very visceral experience of government occupation. They knew who they were up against, and took comfort in the idea that a sustained and uncompromising resistance would eventually lead to the collapse of the Nazi regime. But their freedom came with a price, and "that price was heavy," Camus said, "it had all the weight of blood and the dreadful heaviness of prisons." The threat to freedom that we all face is inborn. At the G-20 summit in Toronto last summer a Canadian officer told a protester that "This ain’t Canada right now", while standing on Canadian soil. The officer confused "preserving the peace and order" with "invade citizens' rights and discourage them from protesting." And he's not the only one.

The cop's indifference towards the law of liberty, and democracy itself, reminds us that there is nothing more threatening to human liberty and human life than centralized and unaccountable political power. Recent history is full of examples of murder by governments. In 1948, Camus wrote that the "evil is the State, whether a police state or a bureaucratic state. Its proliferation in all countries under cover of the most varied ideological pretexts, the revolting security granted it by mechanical and psychological means of repression make of the State a mortal danger for everything that is best in each of us. From this point of view, contemporary political society, in any form, is despicable," (Albert Camus: Resistance, Rebellion, and Death; pg. 78).

The State lives on fear. Today, it is the fear of "terrorists," which is a manufactured threat, meant to scare us into handing over our rights and dignity to the tricksters in authority. "Our twentieth century is the century of fear," wrote Camus in his article "The Century of Fear" for the newspaper "Combat," which supported the French Resistance to Nazi occupation during World War Two. Camus said that fear could be regarded as a developed science, and that "its perfected technology threatens the entire world with destruction." The truth of that statement came to fruition in the last century, but it has taken on new meaning since the attacks on September 11, 2001, especially when we consider the fact that they were engineered and orchestrated by individuals at the highest levels of the United States government who are interested in making the 21st century just as fearful and warlike as the last.

9-11 was obviously no ordinary event. It created a state of suggestibility in the American people, which "is one of the means of indoctrinating ordinary people both religiously and politically," according to British psychiatrist and author William Sargant, most noted for his book "Battle For The Mind: A Physiology of Conversion and Brain-Washing." In the immediate wake of the attacks, which were highly explosive and unexpected, security experts and government officials jumped on the narrative that Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were behind the events, and the entire world uncritically accepted this explanation simply because of the fact that it came from the mouths of authority figures. These leaders took advantage of the American people's fear and lack of knowledge. "Critical faculties," wrote Sargant, "may become inhibited in these states of anxiety hysteria," (Sargant: Battle For The Mind; pg. 50). Drawing from events in World War Two, Sargant gave several examples of "states of anxiety hysteria," writing:
The anxiety engendered by the Fall of France, the Battle of Britain, and the Blitz created a state in which large groups of persons were temporarily able to accept new and sometimes strange beliefs without criticism." (Sargant: Battle For The Mind; pg. 49).
The strange and nonsensical beliefs that came to be accepted by a significant majority of the American people after 9-11 include, "tall steel buildings can fall onto their own footprint without the use of explosives," and that "Saddam had ties to Al-Qaeda, and was involved in the 9-11 attacks." Neither of these beliefs are true but many people still believe them, especially the first one. Anybody who diverts from the official story is called a "conspiracy theorist." The greatest good the "V" for Victory campaign can do is help make the truth popular, destigmatize the "conspiracy theorist" label, and educate the people about the real facts of 9-11, and the fraudulent war on terror.

People need to learn that the tyrants of our age, using their knowledge of how to instill fear and spread hysteria in whole societies, coupled with their control of powerful mass media corporations that are owned by a few oligarchs, have been able to start new wars without just cause, and remain determined to totally reshape our Western democratic societies along the lines of Eastern totalitarian states like China, and the old Soviet Union. Aldous Huxley alerted us to the dictatorial schemes by Western elites, which had already taken fruit in the middle of the 20th century, in his book "Brave New World Revisited." He wrote:
In their propaganda, today's dictators rely for the most part on repetition, suppression, and rationalization--the repetition of catchwords which they wish to be accepted as true, the suppression of facts which they wish to be ignored, the arousal and rationalization of passions which may be used in the interests of the Party or the State." (Huxley: Brave New World Revisited; pg. 56).
There is a real battle for the public mind going on right now. The forces of social education and freedom are facing off against Big Government and Big Business, the forces of state propaganda and slavery. "Freedom is menaced," said Huxley, "and education for freedom is urgently needed."

I believe the "V" campaign can contribute, beyond all our dreams, to the cause of social education, and freedom. Not everybody has to be on board. A vigilant and active few can accomplish great things. The German philosopher Karl Jaspers wrote, "Minorities make history," (Jaspers: Man in The Modern Age; pg. 191). In the same vein, English writer and pacifist said that "the inertia of the many has been responsible for the death of more societies than the misapplied vigour of the few." It is worth remembering that a minority of neoconservatives and warhawks made history by giving the world the Iraq war, and other atrocities. If those rascals can make history, then why can't the supporters of freedom and peace? It comes down to daring to win, and the will to believe.

The Founding Fathers of America dared to win their freedom. Freedom has never been won in any other way. Patrice Lumumba, the leader of the Republic of the Congo who was assassinated 50 years ago by the CIA and the government of Belgium, also dared to win freedom for his country, and he was victorious for a short time. He made history, and because of that he remains an example for a prosperous and independent Africa. In his last letter, written to his wife in December 1960, Lumumba wrote:
"No brutality, mistreatment, or torture has ever forced me to ask for grace, for I prefer to die with my head high, my faith steadfast, and my confidence profound in the destiny of my country, rather than to live in submission and scorn of sacred principles. History will one day have its say, but it will not be the history that Brussels, Paris, Washington or the United Nations will teach, but that which they will teach in the countries emancipated from colonialism and its puppets. Africa will write its own history, and it will be, to the north and to the south of the Sahara, a history of glory and dignity."
Along with the French Resistance to tyranny, the "V" for Victory campaign should look to Lumumba, and the African Resistance to tyranny, for inspiration. With the "V" campaign going worldwide, the global political awakening can become the global political liberation.

If there is one thing that the one-time GAO audit of the Fed disclosed, is how woefully insufficient the extremely superficial data discovery was. Another thing uncovered was just how needed this disclosure was: it provided extended material into how the Fed subsidizes banks (both domestic and international) on an ongoing basis, not to mention substantial number crunching for the blogosphere. Either way, if Bernanke was hoping that the Frank-Dodd bill would take care of the Fed opacity, pardon, transparency issue in perpetuity, he may be disappointed: Ron's son, Rand, has just announced he is introducing legislation to, well, Audit The Fed, precisely along the lines of what his father did previously and generated massive support from everyone in Congress.

An official working within the recently established UN Human Rights Council is under fire from an NGO closely affiliated with Israel for suggesting that the official explanation of the 9/11 attacks is a cover up.

Richard Falk, a former professor of international law emeritus at Princeton University, and an expert on human rights made the comments in a blog post last week, noting that the mainstream media is “unwilling to acknowledge the well-evidenced doubts about the official version of the events: an al Qaeda operation with no foreknowledge by government officials.”

Falk described this version of the 9/11 story as an “apparent cover up” containing “gaps and contradictions”.

The Meaning Of V

The Meaning Of V
Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
January 24, 2011

The historical foundation of the V for Victory symbol is firmly rooted in the stirring spirit of ordinary French people who risked deportation, concentration camps and death in merely expressing their symbolic resistance to being occupied by the Nazis during World War Two.

After the Nazi occupation of France, Victor Auguste de Laveleye, former Belgian minister of Justice and director of the Belgian French-speaking broadcasts on the BBC, picked up on the V’s that were already being scrawled all over Paris by frustrated French citizens demonstrating their opposition to their new slave masters, and devised a massive allied propaganda campaign that would use the V symbol against the Nazis as an act of psychological warfare.

During a radio broadcast, Laveleye explained the power behind the symbol.
“[T]he occupier, by seeing this sign, always the same, infinitely repeated, [would] understand that he is surrounded, encircled by an immense crowd of citizens eagerly awaiting his first moment of weakness, watching for his first failure.”
The V symbol was then adapted by Churchill in his familiar hand salutes, and subsequently broadcast in the form of Morse code to French listeners of Radio Londres, a station broadcast by the Free French forces into occupied France. The audible V was made up of the first four notes of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, which were meant to represent fate knocking at one’s door – another act of psychological warfare against the Nazis given the fact that Beethoven was German.

The radio station’s purpose was to counter the propaganda of the Vichy collaborators and the Nazis, while at the same time passing on messages to the French Resistance and encouraging the spirit of resistance amongst the general population as a whole.

The Doomsday Project, Deep Events, and the Shrinking of American Democracy

The Doomsday Project, Deep Events, and the Shrinking of American Democracy
By Peter Dale Scott
The Asia-Pacific Journal Vol 9, Issue 4 No 3
January 24, 2011

I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency [the National Security Agency] and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return."

-- Senator Frank Church (1975)

In recent years I have become more and more concerned with the interactions between three important and alarming trends in recent American history. The first is America’s increasing militarization, and above all its inclination, even obsession, to involve itself in needless and pernicious wars. The second, closely related, is the progressive shrinking of public politics and the rule of law as they are subordinated, even domestically, to the requirements of covert U.S. operations abroad.

The third, also closely related, is the important and increasingly deleterious impact on American history and the global extension of American power, of what I have called deep events. These events, like the JFK assassination, the Watergate break-in, or 9/11, which repeatedly involve law-breaking or violence, are mysterious to begin with, are embedded in ongoing covert processes, have consequences that enlarge covert government, and are subsequently covered up by systematic falsifications in media and internal government records.

Heinrich von Kleist - On Thinking Things Over: A Paradox

On Thinking Things Over: A Paradox by Heinrich von Kleist:
The virtues of reflection are proclaimed to the four corners of the globe, especially the dispassionate and protracted sort that precedes an action. If I were a Spaniard, an Italian or a Frenchman, the matter could rest there. But because I am a German, I will speak to my son as follows, particularly if he decides on a military career.

"Reflection, or thinking something over, finds its proper moment after rather than before an act. If it comes into play prior to it, or in the very moment of decision, it seems only to confuse, to obstruct and to repress the power to act, which flows from the glorious wellspring of our feelings; contrariwise, it is afterwards, when the action is already performed, that the end for which reflection was intended is best attained: namely, to make us aware of what was faulty and weak in the action, so that we may adjust our feeling for similar cases in future. Life itself is a contest with fate, and the same is true for ordinary action as for wrestling. The athlete, at that moment when he is holding his opponent in his grip, simply has no recourse but to act spontaneously, on inspiration; and if he begins to calculate which muscles to contract and which limbs to move in order to throw him, he will always draw the short straw and be thrown himself. But afterwards, when he has either won or found himself flat on the floor, that would be the proper time and place to think it over, and decide which pressure threw his opponent, or with which foot he ought to have tripped him in order to remain standing himself. Whoever does not hold tightly to life like that wrestler, and, at every turn of contest, in the face of whatever oppositions, pressures, retreats and responses, does not feel and act with every fiber of his being, such a man, try as he might, will never make his mark in a conversation, still less on a field of battle." Why the contest?

Big Brother telescreens at more than 9,000 locations. Naked body porno radiation scanners. PSA propaganda cranked out by the DHS spreading paranoia and the insidious proliferation of a high-tech Stasi state.
